Small “beach” area, 90% broken coral, 10% sand. Due to mostly coral waterline, it is difficult and awkward to enter and leave the water for snorkeling. The drive to 1,000 steps is scenic.

Bonaire is primary a dive/snorkel destination and it lacks with easy access beaches we're used to. Driving around the island we stopped by 1000 steps (several free parking spots by the road).
1000 steps are some 20 min drive north from Kralendijk. First of all, don't worry there aren't 1000 steps, maybe 50-60. Beach down is beautiful with amazingly clean sea. Water entry is easy but be careful - it's a coral beach with lots of them around, so water shoes are a good option which we did not have.
When returning to Kralendijk from here you CAN drive back the same road (20 min). But, if you proceed north BEWARE - after the beach it becomes a one way road and you must drive a loop via Rincon (around 40 min), so have that in mind if you're tight with time.

Hoewel het kiezelstrand iets te bekend is en dus druk bezocht, was het wel de moeite waard. Met snorkelen een kleine schildpad gezien en met duiken zelfs een haai vrij dichtbij het strand. De trap daarentegen is meer voor de instagramfoto en weer door.

LOVED 1000 Steps! The water color is beautiful, it has a very easy entry, plenty of rocks to leave shoes or clothing on and a white sand beach if you want to just hang out. The snorkeling here was amazing. We were able to see 3 turtles as well as a ton of other fish. We felt like we were snorkeling through an aquarium. The road is narrow, for two way traffic for the last couple of miles, but there are some good areas to pass. If you go passed 1000 steps it does turn into a one way road and you have to drive through Rincon to get back, we went that way just to explore and it was beautiful and we had a chance to explore the north east coast a little bit. 1000 Steps is a must visit while in Bonaire.

Leuk en even naar toe (of langs) te rijden vanaf Kralendijk 10 minuutjes. Zoals al eerder beschreven is de marketing machine wat enthousiast over deze trap van 60-70 stapjes naar een kiezelstrand. Prima plek om te water te gaan en idd best wel een boel visjes te kijken maar dat kan eigenlijk overal langs deze kust (muv het beschermde natuurpark (Washington-Slagbaai) verderop).
Gewoon leuk om gezien te hebben, fotootje, evt even te water gaan en door..!

We rented a scooter from our hotel and went up to this stop in the early morning. There were no crowds, or tours there. Snorkeling was AMAZING! We saw sea turtles, lots of colorful fish, coral and squid. It is rocky, wear your water shoes and know this is how the shoreline is.
Go early or late to avoid crowds. If you keep going, the road turns into a one way, and you will have to go around the entire island.

Heel gaaf! En mooie dingen gezien hier waaronder meerdere schildpadden. Een van de mooiste snorkelplekjes van Bonaire. Echt een aanrader om naartoe te gaan!

We snorkeled from a boat off-shore. Plenty of fish and coral. And current wasn't too bad. I would not do it alone though.

Prachtige plek om te snorkelen. Bij veel golfslag is het water direct aan de kustlijn troebel, maar als je wat verder zwemt weer kraakhelder. Prachtige vissen te zien en wij hadden het geluk om ook een zeeschildpad te mogen ontmoeten. Het is wel een drukke plek.

Zeer mooie plek! Veel vissen te zien en ook schildpadden als je heel vroeg bent of rond 16:30. Je moet de trap af en naar links gaan, daar zijn de schildpadden aan het eten. Neem wel waterschoenen mee, er ligt veel koraal.
