I visited here with my sister and 2 nephews. The attraction was a little off the beaten track but was well worth a visit. The boys were intrigued with the science behind the waterwheel (biggest in Britain) and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the turbine house. They also enjoyed the waterfalls and watching the fish. The tin works was very relaxing and picturesque. There were plenty of places to enjoy a picnic, a cafe and a gift shop.

Came here with our new National Trust membership which allowed us free entry. The site is hidden from the normal tourist track yet provides an enjoyable experience. The site features the breath-taking Aberdulais falls and ominous ruins of the tinplate works. There are plenty of information signs on the site which allow you to explore the story of the stones that surround you. At the waterfall, you can feel the spray and hear the roar of the raging torrent. This is a great place to take pictures. The main draw for the site however is the giant waterwheel. Although not in operation during the visit, it was still a sight to see. The ruins of the tinplate works do leave much to the imagination, but I could still picture working life here and they are fun to explore. The entrance might not look appealing, especially with the crumbling Dulais Rock next to it, but overall, a hidden gem worth seeking out if in the area.

We went to the Victorian Christmas evening opening of the tinworks and waterfall.
Firstly the car park is small but free. The site is easily accessible by car, just off a major dual carriageway. Free entry for National Trust cardholders. We enjoyed the Christmas craft room before heading off in the dark with a lantern along the candlelight trail to the waterfall, past the ruins and water wheel. Fabulously lit waterfall, loud and fast flowing. We then had a great story with Santa and his wife, sang a song, and had a photo.
Umbrellas were provided on the wet evening we went, as most of the site is outside. Didn’t take long to do everything. Probably there for about an hour. We’ll go back in the daytime sometime.

My wife had lived round the corner from the falls for years but had never been.
We took the family there and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very interesting mining information and displays. And I’ll never forget the waterfall.
There are other waterfalls nearby we also visited. Mellin Court and Gleneath falls are free and well worth a visit if you’re on a tight budget. If you have the cash, visit aberdulais falls as it’s worth it for the memories.

Aberdulais is MUCH smaller that the average National Trust property, but it’s great! The waterwheel and millpond were the highlights. The car park is on the other side of a busy road, with the crossing a short walk downhill. There is the obligatory coffees shop & gift shop on site.

What a lovely interesting place which could easily be missed. The waterfalls are very impressive tucked away in a small gorge the staff on reception were very helpful and also gave us a map and also advised on other places we might like to visit. The interesting history is explained in a short 15 minute film which you can seat and watch. It was lovely to see the old watermill in action and to see the power of the water being harnessed in this way and still working after all these years.
Also there is a free car park on the opposite side of the road.

I went when the rain was at its worse, but we enjoyed the site and with the extra water the Falls do not resemble any of the photographs. it has a very interesting history, we went in to the exhibitions, which I suggest the staff do this, as I asked two questions about the people in the exhibition about the work force and they failed to answer one of my questions.
Well worth a vist.

After turning up as they was closing Friday a lovely girl came out explained that they was shut but you could do canal walk or gave us directions to other waterfalls ... sadly at the same time there was this family abusing the staff shouting at them because google said they shut at 5.
We visited the ironwork and waterfall again on Saturday it was lovely and peaceful but very short walk.. disabled access was brilliant with lifts up to all areas. You could walk around easy in 1/2 hour. Ideally some areas really need more information signs to explain what was what.. but I believe they are working on that.
The staff was lovely and friendly. Emily was very knowledgable and took time to explain different things around the area. (Same lady as last night)
Great cuppa and cake they also served kids lunches and pasties.
Thank u for your help Emily!

We went to Aberdulais basically to see the falls; we were surprised about what else the location had to offer.
We would have been happy to just see the cascades of the waterfall if that had be all that had been at Aberdulais, instead we soon realised there was a lot more to see. This National Trust site close to Neath has a small car park opposite the location, although visitors also parked on the road running pass it. The attraction is dog-friendly and has the usual gift shop and café amenities you would expect of the NT.
What was unexpected for us, we hadn't looked at TA reviews or other information about Aberdulais, was that this natural attraction is also associate with heavy industry being the site of copper and tin smelting as well as corn milling. The industrial side is obviously now in ruins but the NT has effectively provided an information trail explaining how the site and its natural resources have be used over hundreds of years With plenty of illustrations/pictures to support the text on information boards throughout the site, it was good to see that braille and relief illustrations were available for the visually impaired.
Some parts of the site ay be challenging for people with mobility problems but it is worth climbing the various levels which match the natural cascades of the waterfalls. Undoubtedly the waterfalls will be more spectacular during the winter and after heavy rain, so we intend to return to this attraction

Can we take the dog and how long is the walk to the waterfall.

As previous answers, the site covers a small area. You can easily view the waterfall from above on the site, but there is no walk alongside or beyond the waterfall. We found our visit very interesting and there is plenty of information on the history of the tin mines. Although we didn't require them, we were impressed with the facilities for wheelchair access. Hope you enjoy your visit.

I will be passing through the area in a few days time. Is there a charge just to walk around outside or see the waterfall? Or is the admission fee for something else? Thanks
Aberdulais F
Neath Port Talbot, UK
Hello SpotBoy, many thanks for your question. We do charge an entry fee as we are an historical building as well as a waterfall. here, you will learn about 500 years of the Welsh Tin Industry. As part of the National Trust we conserve the outer buildings and look after the property. If it is purely a waterfall walk, by all means call in as you can see our waterfall, or we can advise you on other areas. Many thanks, and have a lovely holiday. Emily, Visitor Experience.

hello,is it far to walk because ive been told its 40 minites walk to the waterfall is it good for old people?
Aberdulais F
Neath Port Talbot, UK
Hello, Our site is rather compact, so It would take you around 40 mins to casually walk around, watch our videos, see our information boards, and learn about the tinworks industry. The walk from the Visitor Centre to the Waterfall is about 5-10 mins, and the whole site is flat, with lifts to access the top areas. We also have seated areas where you can relax. We also have a tea room where you can eat and have teas and coffee. If you need anymore information, please let me know. Thanks, Emily. Visitor Experience Assistant.
