Fairly extensive ruins with information boards at pertinent points around the site. Grass a little long so had to make a return visit as I didn't fancy walking in ankle deep grass to read the boards in the sandals I was wearing. Fantastic views of the area from the top of the bank.

Abbey has extensive ruins to walk in with information boards. There is an excellent visitor Center with cafe and small museum with information about the abbey and some ancient stones on display. The staff were friendly and chatty. We had coffee and cake first and then after walking round abbey and river side we had lunch - amazing value, large portions and tasty. I had butternut squash soup with large wedges of warm crusty bread and piece of Welsh cheese and my husband had Welsh cheese and ham baguette with salad.
Lovely way to spend a few hours even if the rain!

The Abbey ruins are siyuated in the heart of the town and there is a nearby public car park. The ruins are free toe nter and are quite extensive. There is plenty of information to read to bring the place alive.
Certainly worth a visit and agreat picnic spot too.

Though ruined, plenty of information boards letting you know the original purpose of buildings when it was a functioning abbey, together with drawings of what the abbey may have looked like at that time. Disappointing that the adjoining cafe/centre had no vegan food.

It’s was fascinating walking around the Abbeyand Churchyard and reading the stories - brave St Dogmaels lost at sea .a relative lost his life in WW2 and he was originally from St Dogmaels

We settled on the grass here with drinks and food from the Abbey Cafe. It's free access and a nice small place to visit. It is on a hill, so if you are of limited mobility there are a few tables and chairs behind the cafe at the bottom that you can sit and admire the view of the ruins. The cake is very good from the cafe.

An interesting place to wander round, with the large ruined abbey contrasting with the Norman church. A pretty duck pond and nice cafe with friendly staff.

We came here as part of a wider day out including Cilgerran Castle and Pentre Ifan burial chamber. While it may not have the size of Neath Abbey or be as intact as Tintern Abbey what is left here is worth visiting. Remains of the former abbey church are the most prominent remains here, the West window allowing for great photo opportunities. The 16th Century North Transept is also an impressive feature. What's most amazing about this place, besides the peaceful atmosphere typical of abbeys, is the tiles that still exist in some parts of the complex, particularly around the crossing and the nave. The infirmary also remains largely intact. The other buildings of the abbey may be limited to foundations but you can still get a sense of the life the monks had here. The fact that this abbey was part of a different order (Tironian monks) than many other abbeys also adds to the interest of this place. Parking is available near the abbey but it is limited, and it should also be noted that as of writing the visitor centre is closed. Overall an amazing abbey definitely worth seeing as part of a wider trip in the area (as many other sites are nearby).

We hadn't researched or deliberately visited the Abbey in St Dogmaels, but we found it whilst walking the stunning coastal path.
The whole area is beautiful and the presence of such a well preserved history is an added bonus. There's a stone that is the origin of translation of Ogham (ancient Irish) and some amazing historical facts.
The grounds are well kept and there is plenty of information about the Abbey and its construction/use over the past 1,000 years.
Definitely a good place to take a break from your coastal walk and find out something that probably should be better known.

Dogs are very welcome to come inside the cafe while their owners are dining. The abbey is also open for dogs and free entry to the small museum in the heritage centre.
