‪We booked a dog friendly pod with family of mum dad and 4 kids and it was much more roomy for our mattresses than I had expected. For us it was a very nice alternative to camping (which all of our friends on the get together did) as there is far less hassle. It was also warm at night, compared to a tent in September. You still have to walk to the toilets at night etc! Everything is very close though. Lovely the pods are literally across a wall then at the lake, makes it fell almost lakeside! Yet its nice to be set back at little as at weekend there will be gathering on the boats on the quay (albeit very cilivilised!). We also loved the jetty jumping into the water, cycle rides, the brilliant bug hunting rucksacks (small deposit) and the fantastic stuffed animals and history in the visitor centre. There isn't much grass space for games right on the doorstep, but walk towards the ruins 5 mins reveals meadows where we played rounders etc. The staff were fantastic and offered a some fabulous help after the weekend, going above and beyond!‬

‪There are several walks that are suitable for all levels of mobility and other more remote walks that require good mobility, for example, the woodland on Inisherk Island. The latter walk requires good footwear even in the summer because the woods are muddy in parts.
Entry fees are £5.00 per person if you are not a National Trust member.
For day visitors there is sufficient car parking and there are facilities such as toilets and a cafe.
There are helpful information boards throughout the site.
We have always found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant.
On our last visit in August 2021 there was an abundance of butterflies and we saw Dark Green Fritilleries, Speckled Woods and Small Tortoiseshells.
Overall I recommend this hidden Northern Irish gem to both visitors and locals.‬

‪Because we camped overnight this time we saw more wildlife including the deer and a hare in the quiet early morning. Friendly staff, beautiful campsite with fire pit and good facilities. Pods and other accommodation is also available in some of the beautiful buildings. Bringing bicycles would be recommended to get around though great access to the water for water-sports too. This is a beautiful and peaceful place with easy walking. Can’t understand a negative reviewer I’d read below who wanted ‘more to do’. There’s a exhibition area, second hand book shop, cafe, (weak) Wi-Fi for the kids, some lawn games and a small play park.‬

‪We accessed Crom estate by the marina which is conveniently located near the entrance, we spent a wonderful afternoon in the visitors centre and the gardens on the estate. We spotted a very impressive old Yew tree here. We all enjoyed a long awaited indoor snack in the cafe following the pandemic lockdown‬

‪We (a couple) stayed in one of Crom Estate's glamping 'pods' a couple of weeks ago (September 2020 - still during Covid 19 restrictions) and had a really good experience overall.

It was mid week and we were the only two staying at the glamping site! There were two tents up at the camping part of the site and maybe one family staying in one of the cottages. So it is safe to say that it was a very quiet and peaceful experience and we felt very safe - covid-related.

We were greeted at the entrance to the estate by a member of staff, who directed us towards the glamping site. We were then greeted by another member of staff who showed us where we were staying and gave us all the information as well as our keys for the pod, and the campsite toilets and code for the gate (as it closed to the public at 4pm - great news as we had the walks pretty much to ourselves after that).

The pod was exactly as described and had everything that we needed for glamping i.e. a basic stay indoors that is a step up from camping. There are two single beds and mattresses (bring your own bedding), indoor lighting, plug sockets, a lamp, a mirror, a mini fridge, a microwave, a kettle, a heater and a small table and two chairs. Just in front of our pod was our on picnic table with metal bit to put disposable bbq on. Everything that we needed. Although we brought our own gas stove for cooking.

The glamping 'pods' (indoor stone accommodation) are just a short path away from the main campsite with toilets (campsite guests only after 4pm at this time of year/covid restrictions) and also a firepit. The toilet facilities were clean and had everything I needed: toilet roll, soap, hand drier etc. There were showers (which I didn't use on this occasion) that you could have payed £1 for 10 minutes. The firepit was a great touch and surrounded by log seating. You could purchase firewood at the visitor's centre but we brought our own from home and toasted marshmallows that night. Due to covid, the visitor centre was closed but the tearooms were open between 11am-3pm. There was also wifi, on site, which you could access outside, near the visitor's centre.

Crom Estate itself was beautiful with plenty of walks and trails. To see, there is the lake, castle ruins, the Estate (although private - so at a distance) and lots of wildlife! We were lucky enough to see deer, both in the Estate's enclosure and on the island in the forest and on one of the other forest trails. We also saw red squirrels!

On this occasion, you could not hire out boats/canoes, due to covid restrictions but we came a year or two ago and hired out one of the canoes, which was a great experience.

Overall, we had a lovely one night staycation, with the glamping and getting out for walks and seeing nature, but without the risk of too much hustle and bustle of some other tourist areas.‬

‪The cottages which you can rent from the National Trust are clean and perfectly adequate for a stay in the court yard from bygone days. Also they are dog friendly.

Red squirrels, pipistrelle bats and wild deer are some of the wildlife you can see around the estate. Walking boots are a must as some of the trails are very muddy.

A very peaceful location and would highly recommend.‬

‪Have been visiting Crom for years
Would never tire of its beauty and tranquility.
Fabulous walks and wildlife
You will be hooked and return time and time again.
Have stayed in cottages... camped in tent and recently the glamping pods.
All great...
Cottages just beautiful but a wee bit expensive
Tent pitches good and great shower and toilet facilities...
Glamping pods also lovely...a good size..warm and equipped with mini fridge kettle, microwave electric light and heater..and your own outside picnic table.
You use the showers and toilets at the camping pitch as short stroll away.
Only advice would be is to bring extra light/ and head torches as lighting in pod is very dim...difficult to see what you are doing if using microwave or if you wanted to read.
There are plenty of sockets in pod.
Also mini fridge is exactly that so you need your cool box as well.
Tea Room serves lovely snacks and home baking...open from 11am and the ladies are so efficient..and friendly.‬

‪We went on the red trail, first to the old castle ruins and the yew trees. There were buildings like the Summer house and the ice house. When we were near the end, on the map we saw a short cut so we went down it. It was a historical and beautiful walk.Great for kids.‬
