My friends and I dropped into this winery on our way home from a weekend in Wilson’s Prom. When we arrived we barely received a hello. The whole place was empty, but it felt like we were not welcome, it was a rather awkward experience. We tried a few wines, but with little or no explanation from the lady of what we were trying. We attempted to make conversation, but did not receive much back. We bought some wine to be polite, but really just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. It was a shame as it was a beautiful looking farm, but it appeared as if our business there was not wanted.

We had no idea if we were in the right place when we arrived as it was not the usual commercial style winery. But this was really casual and comfortable which is what we love! We both liked their wine and even more so paired with stunning views of the rolling hills. Lady was lovely really down to Earth and happy to chat so will be going back if passing by again.

It was rather late in the day when we arrived, so the kitchen was clearly closed. This is small family run operation without the bells & whistles of the larger commercial operators. There in lies it charm, an Aussie family having a go, making some good wines. It's a little way off the road but worth your while to check it out.

The boss came in off the tractor to give my mum and I the full run down on the offerings here. We even came up with a cocktail version of their Sweet Cerise red wine. Ask for a Little Red Dress whenever you're next there!

We stopped in on our way down to the island and were pleasantly surprised. Driving down the long driveway, we weren't really sure what we were going to find at the end. We found a quirky little shed/building with the wine tasting area set up. We were greeted and offered the tasting with some short descriptions of each. You can tell this is a family run winery and not a big commercial winery found elsewhere in Victoria so the wine was unique and reasonably priced. We bought a couple of bottles and enjoyed our brief pit stop!

Travelled a long way to visit this particular winery. Acknowledged shortly after arrival, but not very warmly. Another couple came through that appeared to be familiar to the staff member, and were given much more attention, while we sat awkwardly nearby, observing the chatting going on. Enquired as to what tasting plate items on the menu included. Paid $9 for an extremely small, unappealing, ordinary, tasting plate. Buying the ingredients from a supermarket would have been better value for our money
, and we would have had so much more food to enjoy for the same price or less. We didn't even bother with proceeding with the wine tasting after this disappointing experience. Perhaps the only redeeming feature of the whole ordeal was the beautiful views.

My partner and I were fortunate enough to visit Bass Valley Estate Winery as part of a heli-experience in conjunction with Phillip Island Helicopters.
Host Roger is simply fantastic! As part of the package, he'll take you through his vineyard and show you where the magic happens - though don't want to give too much away :) But what I will say is he made us feel at home as soon as we touched down, and setting is beautiful.
Our lunch date was so much fun - thank you again Roger for your amazing hospitality, beautiful wine, great food and intriguing story. And your Father's incredible art - that was another personal highlight. A Winery with character unlike any I've been to before.
Whether you stop by the cellar door to sample (and inevitably buy - we flew back with a case) - or are pondering the helicopter package, I cannot recommend this Winery highly enough. As a local it is important to get to know what's around you - and we are so fortunate to have BV Estate in our own backyard.

Nice selection of red wines, a few whites and some lovely fortifieds. Vintner is knowledgeable and willing to share his experience - definitely worth a visit if you are passing

We tried all of the makers wines and walked out with around 4. The tasting was done in a converted miking shed that still retains some to of the miking equipment. The wine maker was very good at explaining the different wines and how the taste changes with the newer and older wines.

Tasting of the wines was free, which is always welcome. The tasting/eating area is housed in what was once the dairy, complete with old milking equipment. There is certainly some history here, and the rustic display of newspaper clippings and old machinery is really interesting. The proprietor is down to earth and welcoming. Because of a big group visiting the following day, food offerings were limited, however he put together a tasty platter for us. We left feeling well fed, well wined and well educated.
