The course is excellent. Really challenging so would recommend being of a reasonable standard before attempting. Quite unique and designed by Seve Ballesteros (which they are not shy in showing off). Food and beer in the clubhouse after was excellent!
Only drops a mark as the course was too wet to play. It shouldn't have been open! Assuming it's not been pouring down for days beforehand, give it a try.

We thought we would try a couple of local courses instead of actually going away for the weekend on a golfing break. We spent a brilliant afternoon at the Shire. You get the sense that you are playing a top quality ‘resort’ course from the moment you drive through the gates. The sheer beauty of the course is completely hidden from the road linking High Barnet and the M25. We received a very warm welcome from the guys in the pro shop and the great service continued in the bar / restaurant. The lunch was excellent golf course fare, reasonably priced. The course itself was superb and compares very favourably with all the great courses we have played in France, Spain and South Africa. Every hole is interesting and beautifully laid out. The course looks very natural with many water features which blend in to the local surroundings. The course is in excellent condition without being too manicured. The course is very tough if you are keen to make a good score. I would suggest that you bring plenty of balls with you and just enjoy the experience!

Played the Shire on a very quiet Thursday (we only saw 3 other groups).
The course is a challenge and well designed (as expected) but the quality of the course and facilities were way below our expectation. The practice facilities and club house were poor, especially the driving range. To then be told it’s £3 each for a small bucket of around 20 balls was a bit of a joke after spending £200+ on the golf.
The half way hut was closed and looks like it’s been closed for some time, the roof was falling off and it looked very tired and tacky.
Overall, it’s not a place we’d revisit sadly and in its current condition I’m sure it’s not living up to Seve’s vision.
Many better courses in the wider area for a fraction of the cost. Let’s hope the course and facilities get some funds to take it back to where it would be.

Great course, bring a few extra balls. New green keeper doing an amazing work on the greens, probably the best in NW London.

Played the shire last week and have to say it is easily the hardest course I've played in London, but what a challenge it presented to the four of us.course kept in prestine condition and glorious fast greens.clubhouse staff and pro shop extremely freindly. It's like an inland links course with all the trimmings. Cannot and will not understand why the shire London is not in the top 100 uk courses, as it so so should be!!!!! Hope this helps you in choosing where 2 go.

Visisted as part of a golf society on 28/3/19, very underwhelming day, didn’t enjoy the course, disliked the clubhouse even more, wouldn’t recommend

I visited The Shire on 28/3/19 as part of a society & the whole experience was wonderful. As soon as I entered the building I was greeted with a friendly welcome then followed by a nice cup of coffee & proper bacon butty.
The golf course was in fantastic condition & a great mix of holes. I very much enjoyed having 6x Par3’s 6xPar4’s & 6x Par5’s............first time I’ve experienced that type of layout & I wish every course was like that, nice one Seve! After our round we had spicy chicken & chips that was very tasty. One of the best things about The Shire was that whilst you get the feeling you are at a top notch venue there is none of the stuffiness that spoils so many good golfing venues. Thanks to Ceri & the team, I will definitely be back, many thanks.

We decided to play a new course and stumbled across The Shire. What a find. Ample spaced car park and easy to find club house. The door leads to the pro shop where we were greeted by the friendly professional who explained the club, course, range etc. We were early and told that we could play when we were ready and so started on the range. This is an open air range on mats, about 15 bays.
Then we went onto the main course. First hole sets the stalls out. Par 3, over a lake to the green, about 160yd carry. The following 17 followed in the same light. Lots of well placed bunkers and water. Long par 4s, tough par 3s, interwoven with par 5s, most of them long, usually with water. Great course, good condition, nice big greens with lots of tiered greens.
After we went in to the bar and were served by a great guy,very friendly again. Excellent food too.
Love this place. Want to go again. Cannot wait. May see you there. If you do, get in front of me as I may be looking for my golf ball in a lake!!

Just had the best ever Rotary Christmas Lunch at The Shire. Seriously delicious food, exceptionally efficient and friendly staff and the views! Lakes, swans, beautiful grounds stretching off into the distance. Just perfect. Thank you for a wonderful time.

As an ex Pro, I was very excited to go to play Seve's only UK course - and from a design point it is superb - well it would be wouldn't it? But...and its a big but...the course is in such poor condition. All UK courses are suffering with the damage done by so much sun this Summer, but that's no excuse for really poorly maintained fairways, greens and simply appalling bunkers. I read the marketing material on the web site and went expecting a pristine course, clubhouse and views. In reality the clubhouse staff and services were excellent and I so wanted to say that about the course. But it is very very tired and looks overplayed and just not cared for. Operating a golf club is never easy, but first and foremost people come to play the course. That's what they remember. Sadly my memory is that the course needs at least a couple more greenkeepers to make it the reality of Seve's vision.
