‪Prachtig plafond.
Verrassing in het platteland.
Maar het stinkt wel een beetje naar vocht. Daar wordt trouwens wel alles aan gedaan om het binnenklimaat te verbeteren.‬

‪We had read about this little church and took a detour from the A9 to get there. It's signposted, otherwise we would have missed the minor road leading to it. Large car park, passed a few farm gates. Small building, at first you would not notice it's a church.... Until you get inside and see the amazing painted ceiling!‬

‪Amazing. Not far off the beaten track but a beautiful OLD church with an incredible painted ceiling dating to the 1600s. We were the only ones there at the time of visit, very atmospheric, free, information boards, but most of all beautiful and virtually unspoiled. Probably not the kind of place to keep your kids entertained but for anyone interested in historic buildings well worth the visit.‬

‪I noticed the signpost on the road to Aberfeldy, just before you get to Grandtully. Just follow the track and go to the far corner of the car park, through the gate and into the chapel which looks more like a barn from the outside. Once inside, you will be amazed at the ceiling, especially when you realise how old it is and that the building was used as a byre for a time.‬

‪It’s a bit off the beaten track but worth the effort to find it. The paintings are interesting and worth a look. I would like to have seen more information about the history. I had to read about it on the internet i.e the 2 graves under the slabs‬

‪Spotted the sign travelling from Dunkeld to Aberfeldy. There's a dog kennels and cattery signposted at the same place. You feel like you're on a private road but keep going until you reach the small car park. 60m walk through two metal stiles / gates past fields with livestock brings you to what looks like a long barn. Small information board outside. Step inside, click on the timed light switch to your left and prepare to be amazed as your eyes roam past the plain white walls up to the painted ceiling. Free entry but there is a small door in the wall where you can leave donations. Paddle boards in a recess provide descriptions for each painting. What you're standing in isn't the whole church which is evident once you take a look at it again from outside. Go through two more gates (one takes you briefly into the field) to reach the cemetery. Largely overgrown but gives a different view of the church. Fascinating hidden gem and we were the only visitors!‬

‪Eddie Thomson of Heartland Tours must have known I would love this place. First, there are the views of the Grantly Castle through the trees - and at the end of the road, this old longhouse from medieval times with its painted ceiling with coats of arms of the Laird of Grantville and Earl of Athol. Visiting this chapel was to step into the past.‬

‪Visited this little chapel and it was worth the effort to find it. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and fields with sheep and cattle. Amazing painted vaulted ceiling. If travelling nearby, I would recommend stopping off here for a quick visit but beware that it is not well sign-posted and could potentially be quite difficult to find. ‬

‪Our tour guide Eddie stopped at St. Mary's Church to show us a huge piece of Scottish history. The building itself is rather simple, yet the artwork is amazing! The ceiling is absolutely beautiful and it would have been an even better experience had there been electricity. On the way out, Eddie explained that the tree-covered mound outside is what remains of a blackhouse.‬
