‪Walking on Bodmin Moor we passed this small cottage that had been a rest for Methodist travellers in the 18th century. A resident guide serves you refreshment whilst telling you how the Isbell’s provided hospitality to travelling clergy across Bodmin Moor. Well worth a visit.‬

‪Just off the A30. We dropped in by chance as we were walking on Bodmin Moor. The caretaker in keeping with the history and tradition of the building offered refreshments without charge or obligation. When we arrived in Altarnun some hours later the Parish Church and the village had more meaning for us. A simple and sincere story of the beginnings of Methodism in Cornwall charmingly told. A memory that will remain with us . DONT MISS IT.‬

‪Took a short detour to this cottage on our way to walking on Bodmin Moor. We were welcomed by a lovely couple who offered us tea, coffee and biscuits. As we were not rushing anywhere, we enjoyed our refreshments as ‘our hosts’ related the history of the cottage to us. Fascinating story of John Wesley’s preaching days and the tale of the very hospitable Digory Isbell. Enjoyable visit steeped in Cornwall’s history. A little gem in the very pretty village of Altarnun. ‬

‪We visited on the way to meet friends in Five lanes, what a charming place as was the minister who took us on a guided tour. Such history in such a tiny old place with so much care given....well done.
The small well laid out garden area was we were told "ideal for you to come back with a packed lunch and use" which we may well do. As my wife who is from St.Ives and used to the 'bible Christian Methodist church there, she was delighted to find that he is a mutual friend of our guide.......take time to detour and enjoy this place.‬

‪We stopped by the cottage as we were interested in its history. The guides were extremely friendly and informative and we had a lovely surprise of free tea or coffee and cake to welcome us! A lovely little stop on our way.‬
