We were unsure how interested a 5 and 8 year old would be, but felt that the price for a family ticket was very fair and worth paying if the weather was a little unpredictable. Pleased to say they didn't complain of boredom once, and were particularly interested by the children's interactive tour guide, primarily because it is on a screen.
For adults, the castle is well preserved and the views are well worth the climb to the top. It's not suitable if you can't manage a lot of stairs.
We spent about an hour or so here and since there are no loos on site that was about long enough for the youngest.

Absolutely top notch historic castle - it's a great building but it's the information that makes this a really great visit. The audio guide is one of the best I've ever experienced; I felt I genuinely learned a lot and in an entertaining way. It was perfectly pitched to appeal to both adults and children. Reasonable entry price too. Loved it.

Amazing visit with our young grand children. So much thought to involve kids in the experience. I would recommend using the interactive devices as they provided so much info & insight for all ages. Each room had a different animation & the ability to reveal what it would have looked like hundreds of years ago. So much we could not show the kids ourselves.
This has to be the best castle we have visited with them. The staff were very helpful & friendly too. Worth every penny today. Youngest loved discovering toilets & older one loved being in charge of her own tour. Lots of steps so need to be good on them though.

Lovely castle with great views, unfortunately they allow dogs and on our visit the dog was racing ahead of its owner on a long lead. Very dangerous to young children and older people who want to enjoy the castle without having someone’s dog round their legs whilst their owner appeared oblivious to other visitors.
We also found similar problems at other English Heritage sites in the Suffolk area.
Such a shame when we pay for entry and dogs get in free spoiling it for others

Interesting castle with lots of history, museum items and a stunning view of Orford Ness from the roof.

This quiet place has a varied history, from the 12th century, when Henry II was here, up to the 1940s when there was a gun placed on the newly reinforced concrete roof. As a result you can walk around the top of the castle, and appreciate the splendid views to the sea and over the town. You need to climb narrow spiral staircases so be prepared to wait for other visitors at busy times.

While on holiday breaks, we often try to visit at least one or two historical sites.
Orford Castle was quite near and looked like a fairly decent attraction.
Before we even got there, I knew it was going to be small but intact building. This is an old Norman 11th century keep, which is in remarkable condition. I went along with my two 12-year-old children. It must have been good because they both thoroughly enjoyed the entire visit. It consisted of several levels and is no good if you can't climb stairs.
The history is extensive and includes Henary ll.
Please take the time to visit this small but very well-preserved castle. You won't be disappointed I promise.

An interesting visit to this recently reopened and recently restored site. good interpretation material - and great views from the top.

Absolutely fabulous and a definite MUST if you are in the area! Thoroughly enjoyed every minute and so pleased we did this visit. Wonderful audio guide which made it so much fun and the view from the top is spectacular! Cannot recommend enough and the staff were really great 😊 thank you for a fabulous memorable visit!

Amazing trip. So glad I took the time to understand why the castle had render applied. In short it was to ensure that it had the best chance of survival. To restore the brick work would have been so expensive it would have been cheaper to build a new castle.
Paul T needs to get his facts straight when marking out it causes an issue to your enjoyment.
I have been coming to beautiful Orford for a very long time and I’m so pleased they have restored this wonderful piece of history.
