The guy that picked us up was very nice and the car was good for our family. The horseback ride was just average. It was listed at 2hrs and last maybe 1:15, we never went through a coconut grove, just down the road and then along the beach. The beach was beautiful with huge crashing waves which was very nice. The horses were quite dirty but plodded along safely. Out of all of our excursions this one was our least favorite. The horse guide did not speak any English which is fine but didn't allow us to ask any questions about the horses which my kids would have liked.

We had the absolute delight of having Fabian as our tour guide! Not only was he personable, he was quite hilarious and took us to many delicious side spots along the tour. After picking us up from our hotel, we went to one of his favorite coffee places, where we also picked up some delicious Mexican vanilla. Then we went to the charming town of Petatlán and were able to learn about the town’s history. Lastly, we enjoyed a boat ride through the lagoons of Barra de Potosí. On the way back to the hotel, he brought us by his favorite bakery and we brought home some treats to celebrate my birthday. It was a fun day with Fabulous Fabian! 🥳

We absolutely loved our tour of Zihuatanejo/ Ixtapa with Fabian.
Very informative, fun day.

We had a wonderful tour. Ulysses organized events & excursions for us each day. We especially enjoyed seeing the Monarch Butterflies & our time spent in central historic Morelia. Traveling in the van was comfortable & we enjoyed getting to know & spend time with the two other couples on the tour. The places Ulysses arranged for us to eat at were so different & provided a culinary cultural experience. The butterflies were breathtaking & magical.

I will start by saying I had a great time. The trail ride was beautiful and they catered to all experience levels. I am an experienced rider and horse owner, and they let me canter on the beach. They also catered to another family with all beginners. The ranch’s tour guide Ramon was also very friendly and informative.
When picking a horseback tour in Zihua, my group and I compared what appeared to be multiple different horse riding tours online, wanting to pick a business that looked like they treated their horses well (well fed, not too skinny or malnourished in the pictures). However when we arrived, we realized all these rides use the same ranch, just different tour companies. So while transportation is arranged by a separate tour group (which by the way was a nice experience by Ketavi, which I am posting this review for), the horse ride itself is put on by just Rancho El Riscal. Once you get there, you’ll likely be joining a group(s) from another tour group or resort.
The horses at this ranch were too skinny. They are taken on multiple tour rides per day, which makes sense as it’s a business, but they burn a lot of energy doing so. They also didn’t offer any water to the horses after the ride. When we brought up our concerns during and at the end of the ride, the tour guide from the ranch explained it’s just seasonal (dry season = less foliage for them to eat). And that we should try to promote their business to other tourists so they can get more $ to take care of the horses, since they have so many. This didn’t sit well with us. In addition, during our horse ride, we passed another private ranch (not used for tours) and we noticed their horses looked healthy and well fed), so it’s certainly possible to keep horses well fed during this season.
While we had fun, I’m embarrassed to post pictures online because our horses were too skinny. I felt bad riding them. If the ranch just took better care of their horses, this would be a 5 out of 5 experience.
Direct feedback for Rancho El Riscal: Tourists want to ride healthy horses. Treat your horses better, and more tourists will come! You might not think this is important or noticed by tourists, but it is. Thank you.

Our customized tour with Ketavi was excellent. Ulises understood our needs (elder with some mobility issues) and our interests and provided a perfect 5-hour getaway adventure that perfectly suited us. Highly recommend!

Great experience with wonderful hosts/guides. Jennifer and Ram did an amazing job and made everyone feel welcome and part of the group, right from the start, ok you guys we are a family. Very interesting stops along the way with authentic local food. Very busy full days and many, many steps but good times were had by all. We were all happy to see the end of the day, but in a good way. Interesting towns and a hike up to see the butterflies at over 10,000 feet was well worth the trek. Job well done Jennifer and Ram, we would do this again.

Visiting smaller towns and meeting local people, and tasting local cuisine is a special experience worth the time and expense.
Ulises is a fun and knowledgeable guide. You will love the personal touch he brings to the trip. The monarchs were like visiting the land of fairies. Don’t miss it. ❤️

An excellent trip - the butterfly sanctuary is a must and is an awesome site. The tour of the cities and towns along the way give you a real flavour of Mexico and its colonial past. Ulises was an amazing guide and looked after our every need. Totally safe and enjoyable.
I would highly recommend Ulises and his company.

Hi, mpellack. What would you like to know about this attraction?
we are coming as a group of 7 and would like to take a tour around areas some have mentioned like petatlan for the church and gold and then the ruins would be nice as well as barra e potosi I hope I got these correct
we are also looking for some amate art it seems to be a tad difficult to find

You can contact Ulises Solano, the owner of Ketavi Tour Excursions, directly at his website.. Tell him Cindy Jones referred you. We were in Zihua the first week of October 2017 and used his services extensively. He's very good and always on time. We did not go to the areas you are referring to in your note, so I can't comment about those places.

What was the charge to drive to Patzcuaro and back? Did you also go to Santan Clara de Cobre? Georgina

I can't say exactly as we did some shopping and local things with Ulises and he charged us for everything at the end of our trip. I would guess around 12000pesos? We did go to Santa Clara Del Cobre and Quiroga. Ulises was at our beck and call for the 3 days and took us to great restaurants as well. I couldn't recommend him mor strongly!
