We scheduled this tour for our first full day in the city. What a great way to kick off our trip and learn about tons of spots and neighborhoods we can’t wait to return to. Diego was a true expert in street art and Oaxacan culture. We recommend this tour for anyone who wants to feel like they’ve gotten off the beaten path. Thank you Diego and Coyote!

Diego is an exceptional guide. He introduced us to the “pueblos mancomunados” of the Sierra Norte, identified indigenous plants and their uses, is passionate about history and indigenous cultures. As an older hiking couple, we were appreciative of his kindness and support on our hike. Our only regret is that we didn’t find and contact Coyote Aventuras earlier in our stay in Oaxaca and benefit more from their excellent services.

Booked the mezcal experience after reading the reviews. Our guide Diego was very personable and knowledgeable about mezcal. Went to two different producers of different sizes where we probably tried more than 30 different mezcals. The best part is that we only tried a small amount of each one. I barely felt a buzz on the ride home, which is awesome as I wasn't looking for a "party" atmosphere. In spite of that, we had a lot of fun. The food provided at both locations was superb as well. If I had more time in Oaxaca, I would have booked another tour through them as their mission of tourism with a positive impact was really inspiring. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to get off the beaten path a little and try some wonderful mezcals.

We had a wonderful experience with Coyote for a full day tour at Hierve el Agua (including a beautiful hike). We were travelling with our 8-month old baby and they were really kind in accommodating us throughout the day when needed. The guide was amazing and the food delicious. Totally worth the price!
We decided to book another tour with them after that (the mezcal tasting) and it was also a beautiful experience, we had an amazing afternoon with our guide and the 2 mezcaleros we met.
The company works closely with the local communities and it makes all the difference!
Highly recommend for anyone visiting Oaxaca

We had a wonderful trip to Hierve el Agua and to a mezcal farm and distillery. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and funny. She did a great job teaching us about plants, history and the surrounding community on our hike. There was a nice balance of free-time and structured programming. I would definitely recommend!

We did the half day mezcal tour and had a wonderful time. We were a small group of 4 (2 couples) and visited 2 producers. The first was a woman producer and the second showed us the full production process and agave field. They also had nice meal for us. I wish we had time for another tour with Coyote but we loved Oaxaca and plan on visiting again. We will definitely sign up with them for another tour.

We were an extended family of 10, ranging in ages from 11 to 73. We were well prepared thanks to the outfitter's reminders (good shoes, water, towels, even hiking poles for one person). The day was sunny (we brought sunscreen) and the hike sometimes strenuous, but we were rewarded by a plunge in the cool pools and refreshments supplied by our guide, Diego. He was flexible and we were able to substitute a longer hike for a shorter one, adding a quick stop to meet a local mezcalero before visiting the weaving village of Teotilan. All in all, a beautiful day.

We did the hiking with rescue dogs and had a wonderful time. Diego, the guide, was friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. The dogs were cute and well behaved. Awesome tour company that cares about preserving the nature and communities in Oaxaca.

My 18yo daughter and I had a fantastic day out with our small group and our guide Diego was a wealth of information about the Ixtepeji Forest plants and Oaxacan history. We set off with 1 young dog and 3 puppies in the van, and wound our way up the Sierra Norte mountain range to our stop. After a short 30 min walk, we stopped for a delicious breakfast (Almuerza) of fresh bread (from Boulenc), sundried tomatoes, avocado, cheese, beans etc. We then hiked with the dogs up to the top of the range to the lookout to admire the spectacular view. I did struggle with the altitude and last steep section, but Diego was gracious in allowing plenty of time to stop and rest regularly. We then followed a creek all the way downhill, which is also a mountain bike path. It was a scramble in some sections with some uneven rocky bits, but again, we took our time. I had my own hiking pole, but Diego also offered these at the start, so highly recommend utilising at least one to help with balance.
Definitely bring a long sleeves too, as it was chilly at the top. My daughter and I made the choice to stop at the cabins where our driver Jose Luis was waiting, and the remainder of the group hiked another 30 mins to the next pick up. We then stopped at a clifftop cafe with an amazing view for an enormous plate of memeles on the way down the mountain (at about 3.30). Back at 5pm with tired little dogs.
Lastly, the company's mission to rehabilitate stray dogs and get them used to humans is commendable and having them trotting along with us made the hike even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for those who are reasonably fit.

Excellent organization especially in terms of punctuality, from the start to compliance with the described itinerary.
The hiking route was well balanced, with stretches that required a little physical effort but absolutely within everyone’s reach, rewarded by breathtaking views and total immersion in nature. Along the way, we had the opportunity to discover wonderful corners, away from the tourist chaos, and to appreciate the beauty of the place in all its authenticity.
In summary, I highly recommend this tour to those who want a perfect balance between hiking, contact with nature and discovering enchanting places. It was really a pleasure to participate!

I am interested in the Hike and Swim at Apoala Waterfalls tour, however would love to know its difficulty. I am in good shape and can easily do trail walking (3-4 miles) however I know uphill hiking is different. Has anyone had experience with this particular tour who could share their experience? It looks truly amazing.
