Pepe was our guide for our VIP Dolphin and Manatee experience today, and this was definitely a lifelong memory! He was an excellent guide that kept things fun and light, and ensured we had an amazing time! We’re already thinking of coming back soon with our teenagers and hope to get Pepe as our guide again!

We booked this directly through the Dolphin Discovery because it was CHEAPER than booking through Carnival. We were comfortable knowing that we would have to take a taxi to Dolphin Discovery and then back to the cruise ship. ($20 cash each way)
I would recommend going in the morning because then you can stay there all day. Once you get to the location, check-in for your dolphin time. We found plenty of locker space, but we did go in the morning. HIGHLY recommend eating at the buffet near the lockers. Almost no one was there. Plenty of food and tables.
We paid $5 each for a snorkel mask and had a great time exploring the coral reef and fish. That is too the left when you first walk into the park. Don't miss that!

Just incredible, the dolphins are gorgeous and very intelligent, we got to play and interact with them way more than I expected while also learning more about dolphins. The activities are also surprisingly creative.

TL;DR:
The reality of the experience was largely disappointing. In total you get <60 seconds actually touching a dolphin, no video, and $70 photos. I wouldn't do this again and don't recommend it to others.
Pros: you get pictures with a dolphin, there is WiFi, you get lunch, if you drink, there are several bars along the beach, there are lots of beach chairs along the beach. There is a brief sea lion show.
Cons: underwhelming if you expected anything other than a very brief photo op (<60 seconds of contacting the dolphin), overpriced photos, no video, you cannot use your own camera, not much else to do within the "adventure park" once the dolphin experience is over beyond sitting on the beach.
THE PURCHASE:
Based upon the description when I purchased the VIP Royal Swim, I was expecting to have a lot of interaction time with the dolphin(s) and I took a GoPro along to record the experience. There was no disclosure stating that cameras/phones were forbidden near the dolphins. The price of photos is not listed on the website and I didn't see any "add-on" options when I purchased in March 2023 but these options now appear during checkout at present (June 2023).
THE "EXPERIENCE":
The reality of the experience was largely disappointing.
After arriving at that park, we were informed that no cameras or phones were allowed anywhere near the dolphins. We were told that if we wanted any photos that we would have to pay $70 USD per person. When I asked if they were going to record video along with the photos, I was told that there would not be any video of the experience.
The enclosure where they placed us with 10 other people was much smaller than expected. If you look at the website, you'll see a large enclosure with 9 smaller ones at its corners. You'll be placed into one of the small enclosures for your "VIP Royal Swim".
Once we were in the enclosure, a trainer had us each take turns briefly staging six (6) photos with the dolphins (i.e., hold your hand out and the dolphin will touch it, put your hands out and the dolphin will touch its flippers to them, hold your hands by your cheek and the dolphin will touch your cheek, place your hand out and the dolphin will briefly swim into place so it looks like you hugged it, let the dolphins pull you through the water for 15 feet, let the dolphins push you through the water for 15 feet).
Each interaction lasts approximately 3-5 seconds.
Over the entire 30 minutes you are in the enclosure, the sum total of time actually touching a dolphin is between 30 and 60 seconds.
THE PHOTOS:
Given that this is a very formulaic, consistent exercise, you'd think that the photographers would have learned where the optimal places to stand are to frame each shot. In reality, I was very disappointed with the photos we received. The framing was terrible and they are all overexposed.
ACCESSING PHOTOS:
I was annoyed when I was told that I needed to download an App to my phone in order to access the photos. (Spoiler: no you don't. Just wait for the email)
I was shocked when I found out that the "App" is not available through the Google Play store. Seriously. You are required to change your phone's security settings to "enable installation from unauthorized sources" and then sideload it. Talk about a potential security nightmare!
No legitimate business should be doing this!
The gentleman that we were speaking with told me that it is not big deal and asked me to just give him my phone so he could make all the necessary changes and install their app. I declined multiple times and asked him if he was aware how risky sideloading apps is. After I told him I could not install their app he told me that we would get an email with an access code and link. Why didn't they just tell me that to start with?
Overall, I was disappointed with this experience and because so many details were not communicated up-front, I felt like I was getting shaken down for money throughout the process.
I wish that they'd list the full price for everything (including photos) right up front and make it abundantly clear that you will not be allowed to take any of your own photos/video.
Additionally, we didn't really see anything else of value/interest within the "Adventure Park" so don't think that there is anything else that offsets the high price of the dolphin experience. In particular, there is not really much to see snorkeling within the adventure park boundaries. You are much better served to go elsewhere is Cozumel for that.

We had an amazing experience, Brenda our dolphin trainer was great, made sure everyone had a chance to interact with the dolphins, even our little guys, never felt rushed or hurried. It's a must to do in cozumel. The dolphins were great and friendly. Family of 4 with boys 6 & 9.

El mejor lugar para nadar con delfines del Caribe!! el lugar esta increible , el personal es super atento y te explica todo a super detalle. Las experiencias que nosotros adquirimos fue nado con delfines y nado con Manatee , las 2 experiencias estuvieron increibles a los manatee se les da de comer y uno los puede acariciar y abrazar son uanimales super tiernos y tranquilos . El personal que te guia durante la expriencia explica absolutamente todo y son muy cuidadosos con los animales.
El nado con delfines una experiencia unica , son unos animales super lindos y tiernos los intrcutores te guian en todo momento y te dan mucha seguridad yo lleve a mi niña de 5 años y se la paso bomba!!.
El paquete que contratamos nosotros fue con buffet incluido el cual nos gusto mucho los alimentos estaban frescos y era muy variado el menu.
Dentro del parque se encuentra una zona de palapas , amacas y sillas enfrente del Mar la vista es bellisima!! y el lugar es excelente para snorkel, puedes llevar tu equipo o ahi te lo rentan. Dentro del paquete tienes accesos a los lockers el cual puedes usar durante toda tu estancia en el parque.
El nado con delfines una experiencia unica , son unos animales super lindos y tiernos los intrcutores te guian en todo momento y te dan mucha seguridad yo lleve a mi niña de 5 años y se la paso bomba!!.
El paquete que contratamos nosotros fue con buffet incluido el cual nos gusto mucho los alimentos estaban frescos y era muy variado el menu.

We had the best time as a family playing with the dolphins ❤️ on our recent cruise. It appeared to me the animals were well cared for and happy. Our dolphin Itanna had quite the personality. The trainers were great and gave clear instructions. It was very organized and we always knew where to go and in a timely manner. I bought the tickets on Groupon (yes I did a Groupon in Mexico 😂) and it worked great. We have a large family and it was the only way this made sense for us, half the cost as booking through the cruise line! I felt 30-40 minutes was enough. It was just the 6 of us with our dolphin so we got lots of time with her and then some time with a manatee. The staff was responsive and setup a 1pm time for us. The morning slots all go to the cruise lines but 1 worked perfectly and gave us a slower start to the morning. We arrived about 11 and swam in the beach and pool and stayed until about 3 giving us plenty of time to get back to the ship. Now the pictures are ridiculously expensive…. And if you want a family picture you have to buy it in the beginning. I just keep saying no… and then I thought I’ll just buy one of each kid for $120 rather than $275 for all of them. At the end she made me a deal and gave me all for $200. It would not have been an option for me if I had not done the Groupon so I guess they got the money from me somehow lol. The food was just ok but service for drinks by the pool was great. Overall an enjoyable cruise excursion for our family and the highlight for one of my daughters!

The event was ok. The guide was NOT clear on the plan. He toured the area, some little shopping area, mexican area with artifacts and such in Cozumel on 5/25/2023. I paid for the Dolpin/Manatee/Sea Lion (which no sea lions), then he screwed around and we didn't get alot of time with them. I paid $149 per person for maybe 30 minutes. Then they suck you in with the photos. Which I paid $135 for to get all of them versus just getting 6 for $105 so I bought them all. I got the slips that was supposed to be a 'code' to download them and it does NOT work. I reached out to the email address, got a Claudia person, sent here what the guy gave me at the register, now I am going back and forth to try to get these pics which I paid CASH for cuz that is what the notice said to bring cash, as they don't take cards. Now it is the 30th and the 3rd email still not code and no pics to my email. This excursion was not too horrible, but if you want dolphins, do elsewhere as these guys are NOT organized and screw you out of your money for no pictures. Don't do it in Cozumel from the Carnival line and definitely don't do the pictures (tell them no) you won't see them anyways. They are a joke!!!

Hello! We are trying to figure out how to book the dolphin and manatee experiences, but our kids are 8 (great swimmer) and 4 (beginner swimmer). We're seeing mixed info on the ages allowed for each of the experiences - encounter, swim, and royal swim. And we aren't sure if we'd be split up as 1 parent/1 kid, or if both parents would be able to swim with the animals even if our little one can only do the encounter. Does anyone know if our 4 yr old would be able to do the dolphin or manatee swim? Or do you know how they split families with kids in different age ranges? We're seeing great deals, so we need to book them now vs. waiting for our cruise. I'd appreciate any help you can provide!

Regarding height, our policies are:
below 1m children are considered infants and they can enter Dolphins/Manaties activities as long as our floating vests fit them properly
1m-1.40m to do activities in Encounter/Manaties
1.40m and above are can do any program activities and Sea Lions
Please feel free to book your family according to what we refer since we will do our best to accommodate you guys together.

hello, I would like to book swimming with the dolphins with you. My question is how is the transfer going? We are at the Hotel Ocean Maya Royale in Playa del Carmen. Will we be picked up?

It is great to read that you are traveling to the destination. We have a few options to provide dolphin interactive programs. Particularly in the case of staying in Playa del Carmen you would have to take the ferry to Cozumel island and arrive to Chankanaab Park to reach our facilities.
As I stated at first you can check on our options also in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras in our main site dolphindiscovery.
There is the option to book in Cozumel as well. We would love to welcome you and have an experience of a lifetime.

Never did this before and not sure if it is best to book through the cruise or through Discovery Cove in Cozumel? When I called it was super cheap $238 for 3 adults!

We booked direct and made a massive saving compared to cruise prices. The online help could not have been better. Good cancellation policy if ship doesn't port and we got all photos included in a package. Something the cruise line does not offer. The photos are extremely expensive so this was an awesome deal

we are coming in on a cruise. I want to book this excursion, but it is cheaper to not book through the cruise line. If I do this will we have enough time to get back to the boat if our excursion starts at 11? Do they provide transportation?
