This was one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences that we will never forget. We booked three separate excursions through Cancun Adventures and this was the first one of the trip. We were picked up promptly from our resort and driven to the port. Once checked in, we were on a boat headed to open waters. The group was pretty small (10 total) and felt like an appropriate amount for this type of excursion. We stopped at about an hour and a half and were able to jump in and swim around for a bit. Swimming in the open ocean was a different experience than our usual snorkeling trips, but it was awesome. We got back in the boat and headed to the whale sharks. They found a pod of 5 and we were ready to begin. You are prepped to jump off the boat at the right time to get to swim along side them. When they say go, you better go, because those fish are speedy! We were able to jump twice. The first was really quick so we only saw it for about 15 seconds. But the second was amazing. We were able to swim right along side it and truly appreciate it's size and beauty. After we all finished our second jump, it was time to head back - straight through a storm! I thought it was kind of fun, my wife not so much. But you can't control the weather, so might as well get a laugh out of it. The weather did prevent us from getting our beach lunch, but none of us were too worried about that.
Summary: This was one of the most amazing things we have ever done. I don't recommend if you are not a good swimmer or get seasick easily. You are jumping from a moving ship and have to keep pace with the whale shark or you won't enjoy this experience. But I loved every second of it, from the boat ride to the swim.

Michelle, Mike, Valdi and Alejandro were fantastic, from the early morning pick up until the final moment…thank you.
The Whale Shark excursion has been something I’ve wanted to do for such a long time, it did not disappoint. From swimming along side these beautiful creatures to seeing so many manta rays, turtles, flamingos were only some of the highlights. If you are thinking about this trip - do it, don’t hesitate!

#whalesharklove aside from my wedding this was the best day ever!!! Swimming arms length from these majestic sharks was phenomenal. The experience of the crew to get it on point was extraordinary! Michelle, Rey, Rene and Danny were the best! 100% recommended!!!

Michelle(Michellaaaaa)started this amazing experience off with such good energy and love to these beautiful creatures. It really got everyone pumped for the trip out into the deep blue sea, even though we were all still half asleep hahaha. Once we got onto the boat, Capt Danny and sailor René were absolutely inviting and made sure everyone was comfortable. The whole crew worked together locating the whale sharks with such joys on their faces. Each guest was dropped in for the perfect sighting position and we all had wide eyed smiles once our turns were completed.
Last, but not least, our driver César got us all back to our resort’s safely.
What an unforgettable experience that was even better than I could have imagined

Michelle was absolutely an amazing tour guide for this trip! She is so personable and a joy to be around for the day! She is very knowledgeable about the whale sharks and has such passion for these beautiful creatures of the sea! She worked very hard to make sure we got to see one and have a wonderful, up close experience with one! I had a fin slip off during the dive and Michelle was right there to lend a hand. They stay close by to help when needed!
Capt Danny was fantastic driving the boat and getting us to where we needed to be and being there to pick us up! Sailor René was great in the water making sure we had the best view of the whale shark and even offered to take video on the go pro for us of us and the whale shark! Mendez made sure we got safely to our destination and had drinks and snacks for the ride!
All around one of the best experiences of my life!

My girlfriend and I booked the Whale Shark Experience with cancun adventures. From the start Justine, Miguel and Marcel were wonderful and amazing guides from the beginning. They made sure everyone was accommodated regardless of swimming experience and made sure everyone was happy. We highly suggest you take this tour and tell them you want these three people as your guides. Definitely a must if you get a chance to add this in your trip.

We went out with Justine, Mario, and Marcé and it was INCREDIBLE!! They were super friendly and got to know us on the boat ride out to the whale sharks. The boat ride was a little long but absolutely worth the journey, Marce was our guide in the water and helped us get right up next to the whale sharks and keep up with them. Would recommend to anyone of any age, on our boat we had two other little families in our group with older and younger kids and everyone was in awe. We saw HUGE manta Rays too which we drove up next to. The beach at Isla Mujeres was crowded but the most gorgeous beach me and my family wife had ever seen. Worth every penny!!

I’ll start by saying our transportation chauffeur Chris was awesome! My wife and I went with (3) random couples, and once we arrived we were greeted by our guide Michelle (Stella!!!!) who was nothing short of amazing! I didn’t know we were doing the tour in the most natural way possible which was a pleasant surprise! You could tell Michelle, our Captain Danny, and the right hand man Rosendo are super knowledgeable and passionate when it comes to the ocean ecosystem, but more specifically whale sharks, which in turn made the experience that much more enjoyable! The experience in the water was breathtaking and a once in a lifetime experience that you share with everyone on the boat, and because of that everyone now shares this common bond. At the end of the tour all the couples exchanged info, photos, and video footage. I used to not have a great appreciation for whale sharks due to the popularity of the Great Whites and other prolific sharks, but after this tour Whale Sharks are undoubtedly my favorite shark of the ocean and one of my favorite animals all together. If you have a GoPro, bring it!!! If not you can rent one there and receive the SD card with all the photos and footage. A definite must is you have to request Michelle! You will not be disappointed!

Whale Sharks have no natural known predators. I have swam with them on three occasions; Cancun and Cabo San Lucas. I was never worried and I can assure you that the tour guides make safety their priority. Manta Rays, occasional dolphins and couple of sea turtles have passed through or swam along.

In Cancun, the whale shark season typically runs from May thru early September. I would contact Cancun Adventures for more information. That is the company I go through.

The whale sharks are in the Cancun area from June to the middle of September. Whale sharks are filter feeders and during this time it is spawning season for tuna, mahi mahi, and other fish. The whale sharks are there to feast on caviar! Afterwards, they move south.
