Incroyable. Ce musée est d'une richesse incomparable ! J'y ai passé près de 3heures, et encore, j'ai dû me dépêcher, car j'aurais pu y passer encore plus de temps.
Des employés charmants et attentionnés, complètement bilingues français et anglais, tout comme l'intégralité des diverses expositions. Tout au long des 4 grandes salles, on découvre l'histoire de la guerre au Canada avec les Anglais, les Français, les Américains, mais aussi à l'étranger, dans les guerres mondiales... super intéressant. Tout à la fin des 4 salles, on arrive à un hall immense avec des chars d'assaut, des avions... incroyable. Visite incontournable à Ottawa. Parking sur place (13$ max) et entièrement accessible pour les personnes à mobilité réduite.

Beaucoup de contenu, d'explications, de documents historiques, beaucoup de choses à voir, prévoir une demi journée de visite et revenir d'une année à l'autre parce que les exhibits changent, s'ajoutent. On apprend beaucoup, les explications sont données avec leur contexte. Le point de vue est objectif: on aura droit à visionner le document de propagande que les allemands ont préparé pour les leurs suite à la défaite canadienne du débarquement de Dieppe dans la 2e guerre mondiale.

I'm not too sure why we need a war museum when we can have a peace musmem ? defeats the purpose imho. this place should be converted to a shelter and rehab facility to get our vets of the streets not glorify wars that didnt even occur on canadian territories and frankly we had nothing to do with!

You travel through 4 sections within the museum, each section dedicated to different time periods with respect to Canada. From the days of the first Europeans to today. So much information to take in, you need a at least a few hours. Park underground in the winter and it’s heated. No need to bring in your coat. Overall very well laid out and impressive.

Ce musée nous plonge dans l'histoire du Canada. La scénographie est très bien pensée. On y retrouve toutes les interventions du Canada dans les diverses guerres de son histoire. Au rez de chaussée, l'exposition de chars d'assaut est grandiose.

Very informative and interesting! There’s tons of things to learn you could be here for hours, especially if you are a big history and military connoisseur.
I went during a weekday and it was quite slow, so it felt a bit empty. The employees were also not the friendliest for whatever reason.
Overall a good place to visit but you may want to go when it’s a bit livelier or there’s an event going on.

Beautiful museum that pays tribute to Canada's past and present military. Exhibits were well presented and available in both languages. There is something for everyone here

The war museum is an outstanding place to visit. The displays are excellent and current. If you are a Canadian veteran, you and your spouse are admitted free. Highly recommended.

It is a great place to visit if you are interested in history. I especially liked the collection of military equipment from 1700 to very recently. It contains the biggest collection of tanks that I have ever seen. The galleries covered about 1600 to present. WW1 and WW2 were very interesting.. Wars after Korea were barely covered and not much interest to me.

You only need 3 - 5 hours to see everything in detail. Maybe longer if you are seeing a movie as well.

Hello, the Canadian War Museum is fully accessible by wheelchair and by scooter. We have elevators throughout the Museum and parking spaces for those using wheelchairs on level P1.
Courtesy wheelchairs, a motorized wheelchair and strollers are available at the Information Desk (subject to availability).

I'm trying to set an itinerary for a one-day visit to Ottawa. How much time do you recommend I set aside for a visit to the War Museum?

Hello, as well advised by John H, you should plan at least 3 to 4 hours to visit. The Museum has five permanent galleries, as well as a special exhibition to visit. Check our website for a list of all programs available the day you plan to visit.

Hello, the War Museum is located a fairly good walk from the ByWard market. It is however only approximately 10 minutes by car.
The War Museum offers a senior rate of $13.00 plus taxes.

Looking to visit this coming weekend. That said, I have heard of hidden messages in the museum. Like the small windows on the front of the building spelling something in morse code. Is this true and where do I learn more about the hidden aspects?

Thank you for your interest in visiting the Canadian War Museum. The Museum's architectural themes includes various symbolisms and details such as:
-Designed to highlight the theme of regeneration, the Museum emerges slowly from the landscape. Its grass-covered roof
and low profile remind us of nature’s ability to recover from the devastation of war and human conflict.
-Angled walls give visitors a sense of the instability of war.
-The towering Regeneration Hall is pierced with windows depicting the words “Lest we forget / N’oublions jamais” in Morse code.
And many more. To learn more about the architecture of the building, I would suggest your participate in a guided tour (inquire at the Box Office). The tour covers the architectural details and symbolism of the Museum, along with key highlights in the permanent exhibitions.
