Love this lighthouse!! Beautiful walk at low tide and a good place to beach comb and take pictures. Worth the drive. Check tides

Easy beach walk at low tide. Easy parking. A steep trail leads from the road to the beach. Tide pools to explore.

We had tried to access Indian Head Lighthouse last October at low tide. Unfortunately, the seas and weather had other ideas. Very stormy with waves crashing over the break-wall. We visited again last month(June) on a perfect day at low tide. The concern this time was that even at low tide, we were not able to walk out to the lighthouse on the seabed. Undaunted, we scrambled over the one-kilometre break-wall across the rocks. This isn't for the faint-hearted. We've had a fair bit of rock scrambling experience over the years, and at times going out you needed to go hands and knees and were constantly climbing up and down off the rocks. Nevertheless, it took over an hour to cross out to the lighthouse.
Once there, the structure itself is very interesting, with the octangular bottom portion being built as the keeper's residence. The lighthouse itself is in need of some repair and care.
If you can get out to it, it is worth the effort. Should mention that the wind does tend to pick up as the day progresses in Summerside. We started our trip across the break-wall at 10:30 am. By mid-afternoon, the winds were causing the waves to crash over the break-wall.

This lighthouse can be seen from downtown Summerside across the bay. It is a 22 minute drive from Summerside. When the tide is out you can walk all the way to the lighthouse. There are large rocks to walk on to get there. The walk can be a little tedious for those who boardwalk as a rule. It is private at the end of a dirt road. Definitely serene and has a great view. Nice photo opportunity.

History and lighthouse lovers must, but go at low tide for an easier walk out to the point. Also has one of PEI's hidden beach jewels

Well I was staying in Summerside for business with little to do, one evening I took a run out to this mainly because there is a geocache located at this lighthouse.
I had a great time!
Make sure to visit this location at low tide, just google tides.
Kids would love it because there are so many sea animals (crabs, several types of clams, several types of snails, etc.....

Took photos from a distance because we did not feel it was worth the walk in the rain. Did not see it at night so we really cannot say too much other than it looks better than most standard lighthouses.

This isn't really a lighthouse to visit, more just to take in. It's operational, and flashes at night. If you have a good zoom lens on your camera, you can get some nice photos of it, often with birds all around it.
You'll see it if you walk or bike the baywalk (which you should!) and it's a prominent feature of Summerside Harbour.

Visitar esta isla es una experiencia inolvidable por sus hermosos paisajes , atractivos turisticos, tiendas y hospedaje,,,,en verano existe una gran catidad de actividades para realizar ejemplo el acampar , una experiencia muy hermosa porque tenemos seguridad sobre todo y las demas ex`periencias que es vivir en estos campos a donde acuden turistas de todos los lugares, puedes pasar dos o tres dias...llevar todos los implementos y comida. Para los niños es hermoso ver como se divierten...Para llegar a este sitio debemos tomar el Ferri , para atravesar el pmar y llegar a nuestro destino, aqui en el ferri puedes comer, desayuno o depende la hora que lo tomes ....debes recorrer la isla y llegar a varios sitios entre ello Cavendish , un pueblo pequeño pero muy turisti. ..es muy recomendable conocer y disfrutar de la naturaleza y belleza del lugar....vayan todas las personas que puedan y disfruten de la gastronomia, paisaje, atractivos y actividades variadas.
