‪Amazing Neighborhood To Walk Around ‬

‪This was probably tied with Mount Royal as the highlight of my Montreal trip. My wife and I were here with my teenage daughter, one of us are attraction based fans and prefer to enjoy a city by walking its streets. Well it doesn't get much better than Mile End! Tons of cool thrift and vintage stores plus other unique shops. Funky cafes with a good number of bagel shops thrown in. There were a couple of venues of cases with live music happening where it all kinda spilled onto the street. The sides streets were beautiful with a lot of greenery and many dedicated bike lanes so this would probably be a cool spot to bike as well as walk.

Make sure you give yourself a lot of time to enjoy it. We were there on a warm Saturday in late May so I'm not sure if it's alwaya that hopping.‬

‪At first sight, I didn’t enjoy it until I learned the stories‬

‪At first glance I did not like Mile End - too much graffiti (and I don’t mean the art murals, but sloppy tagging of names). Ironically they are quite proud of all the graffiti. But we took a tour and heard the stories of how the neighborhood came to be and the external stairs and I gained an appreciation. Many small, local food places that are great. I still wouldn’t stay here when visiting, but it is a great place to spend a day. I do recommend a tour as learning more about the history made me appreciate it more.‬

‪Upscale Part of Town‬

‪It's a pretty neighborhood and definitely upscale. Not easy to get to from the Metro. Near the Mount Royal park. Some restaurants around. A pleasant place to take a walk and see where upscale people live.‬

‪Those typical houses should be seen, just during a short walk or even, as there isn't a lot of traffic, driving through slowly. Most of them are very well maintained. Pure tradition.‬

‪My Favorite Area in Montreal‬

‪We spent an entire day walking around this neighborhood and it was my favorite area; even better than Old Montreal. You can hit up a lot of the classic Montreal spots for bagels, smoked meat, etc. but there are also lots of little gems. This is a MUST DO area as long as you don't mind walking or biking a decent amount. ‬

‪Leave the city for Mile End‬

‪It's so much nicer out in the suburbs of Montreal. I'd spend half a morning downtown and then head out to Mile End and surroundings. Downtown is grubby and most things are closed or under construction. ‬

‪There is nothing extraordinary to see here rather than a normal neighborhood, the colored houses you see on the post are very far to look like that up to date, so do not waste your time here, overall when there are so many other things to do in this beautiful city. ‬
