‪I thought a previous reviewer was joking when he mentioned used diapers on the beach….He wasn’t….
The beach itself could be fair but the common theme here is to just leave your garbage on the beach when you finish, the water itself had lots of plastic and garbage in it…including diapers😊…it’s got plenty of places nearby selling reasonably priced food so there is some infrastructure there.
There is also a half finished basketball stadium with some Congress man’s name on it.
It is also the place of Magellans Landing site, the monument there is falling apart…if Magellan was there today he would be horrified at what was once a pristine paradise has become.
The place has real promise but at this time it more resembles a garbage dump than a pristine beach. People’s behaviour there just has to change, they should start caring for the environment.‬

‪It’s a dirty little beach with black sand and used diapers littered All over the place. It smells and guests are mostly dangerous looking, drunken poor Tricyle drivers who’ll cat call your gf is she has light skin.‬

‪Black beach, good infrastructure, average cleanness‬

‪Masao Beach is only 40 minutes with away from the center of Butuan. It has a nice infrastructure - you can buy all you need there. The beach is sometimes not so clean.‬

‪Lovely beach with fresh fish to order, about 500php if i remember correctly... and lovely water to swim in, it's got lovely booths to sit and eat breakfast and lunch at, or you can take a trip in one of the boats around the beach, or just go for a swim, it's also worth walking down and having a nice stroll along the beach.‬

‪Dirty beach - interesting history‬

‪Visited the becuase while viewing the Magellan landing site. There was lots of trash and black sand. The water had lots of garbage in it too. Would not recommend for swimming for the faint of heart. ‬

‪Masao Beach, Butuan‬

‪People around Butuan know where to go for a weekend beach visit that is not too far away and is a great place to bring food and drinks and hang out with the kids. Right near the Magellan landing site monument, in Barangay Masao, there is a long brown sand beach lined with rest houses for rent from 100-300 pesos where you can hang out, eat and drink, and go swimming when the mood strikes you. There are also some pumpboats available for rent as well as inner tubes. A small market near by provides grilled fish and drinks. The beach was clean and well kept the day I visited. On the way to Masao, you can stop by local stands along the road and purchase oysters or clams for practically nothing. To get there, going toward the airport from Butuan City, turn left at Libertad market and follow the signs.‬
