‪Antient city is an amazing place to enjoy one whole day and see a lot of monuments and temples from all country (smaller than the originals but ok, you can enter the temples as well).
You can go by bts and then a taxi for 100 bahts. 1.30h from Bangkok
What really bothered me was the area inside the complex that allows elephant riding and feeding. There was 2 elephants with chains and they almost can't move. The mahout had a bullhook and he was using it in the ears of the elephants to obligate them to move to the tourists. After me and my familly go away he put the chains on the elephant leg again.
There is no need to have abused animals!! You have to pay extra for this, so please don't contribute to animal abuse!!‬

‪I really liked visiting, for touring the replica attractions and for seeing the International Lantern and Food festival, which I think only continues for another two weeks or so (until early Dec. 2021, maybe). I can see why people might feel differently, related to parts of the park being under construction for renovation. I didn't get the sense that we missed a lot but a dozen or so places were either closed or being worked on.

There wasn't much to the food festival but I really liked the atmosphere, the music and pleasant lighting in that unique kind of quiet open space. It felt a little like a local fair from back home (in the US), with cotton candy and booths for throwing darts and a shooting gallery. That still leaves out plenty of parts; there were no rides, and the American fair food range wasn't replicated, no funnel cakes and the rest. The feel worked well. It would be easy to get that wrong, to blare music that is slightly wrong, or not make the lights as diverse, or as tasteful related to that setting, but they nailed it. German sausages and the cotton candy essentially covered it for the "international" theme, unless someone sees gyoza as an example, which was fine for me.

Day visit cost is substantial, related to local Thai theme outings, something like 800 baht, $20+. The festival part cost 250 baht ($8 or so), with the same rate offered to local foreigners with a work permit. Some local foreigners, or expats, if one prefers, hate the "dual pricing" themes for paying more taxes than most locals, and this place used such a theme for daytime admission but it wasn't like that for the festival.

A lot of places in Thailand work really well within the paradigm of not being exactly like what is on offer in the US or Europe. I don't mean more primitive or rougher edged, necessarily, but if you go everywhere expecting places to look like Disneyland then you have to make choices based on that. I suppose such a person might find the Smithstonian outdated and badly maintained too, which is getting off the point. For showing over 100 replicas of Thai historical and religious sites (some at 2 or 3 to 1 scale, not really so small), this place is fantastic, and the Lantern Festival event drew on that in a positive, balanced, and appropriate way.‬

‪The Ancient City is huge and wonderful. We went to the light festival at 5.00 pm. The Lantern festival was nice. The food at the festival was good. The historical buildings were beautiful and well maintained.‬

‪A small vacation for a salaryman like us. I want to travel around the country But the leave is not very helpful. Long holidays, I want to keep it for traveling abroad, but Som Poi has a recommended place to visit, that is, "The Ancient City of Samut Prakan, where you can travel to Thailand in one place". You can travel all over Thailand in one day. Plus photos to go home and post all year. Good things like this must hurry‬

‪“Ancient City” is a very good place. There are many simulations for us to visit. There are ancient stone castles on the top of the hill for us to walk up to and hit the beautiful view from above. There are also bicycles for us to ride and explore different areas. There is a waterfront pavilion for stopping by the side of the road because the place is very wide. For this trip I recommend going with family or friends. Because we will be able to spend all day doing good activities together. And should go on a clear day because it is suitable for people who want to take pictures and take beautiful photos.‬

‪We weren't told that we need to change tickets at the tour group office which was situated at the entrance by the main road. We went to the ticketing booth inside and we were told we needed to get our tickets outside which is about 5 minutes walk away.

Upon reaching the tour office, there's no proper queuing system. People rush to whichever open counter they see. When i finally got attended to, the person who attended to me couldn't find my reservation. And as she was trying to look for my tickets, she kept attending to other people and passing my personal phone around to everyone else who took it and probably walked around the whole office and then passing it around. When i asked if they can focus on just 1 guest at a time, they simply told me to wait and continue attending to 3 to 4 guests at a time. They had a number of staff around and it's not like it was extremely busy but they kept losing focus of the issue on hand but instead kept poking their noses into other issues and end up making all guests wait unnecessarily. After 15 minutes, i got my tickets (finally), i was told i can enter with the pink slip that they gave me. No need to exchange for anything.

We headed back to the ticket office to rent a buggy and to purchase tickets for our local friends.

It was just chaos in the ticket office. No queueing system, just people jumping into whichever counter they see.

There was no proper signages as well. When we approached a counter to purchase a ticket, they said we can't get it from her. We need to head to another counter. When we finally head there, they staff was extremely concerned with why i chose to purchase tickets online and refuse to sell my local Thai friends their tickets. He finally explained that he needed my ticket voucher and when i asked about the inconsistency in the information that was given to me, he simply mentioned for me to head back to the office outside to check with them. (Please note that they are from the same company).

When he finally sold us the tickets, we asked him about the buggy prices. He simply said it's 500 bhat for the first hour. When we asked how much are the subsequent hour charges, he simply said it depends on how long we used it. When we clarified our question, again, he said it depends on how long we used the buggy. Extremely rude as be kept cutting us off and did not even bother to answer our question (we eventually found that it's 500 bhat for the first hour and 300 bhat for every subsequent hour that passed for a 6 seater buggy from another staff).

We were given a buggy key and then when we head out, the staff manning the buggy stations was surprised that she wasn't informed to prepare the buggy as she didn't want us to wait.

We thought that was the end of the problems and we can finally enjoy the park but no.

We were given a 5 seater buggy despite renting a 6 seater buggy. They did not mention when we rented it and we specifically highlight we wanted a 6 seater buggy because we had 6 people in our group!

When questioned, they said they ran out of 6 seater buggies and this is all they have. So it's a take it or leave it situation. No service recovery, no flexibility. Their other option was for us to pay to rent 2 of their 4 seater buggies (400 for the first hour and 200 bhat every subsequent hour). When i told them that they shouldn't make guest pay for their issues, again, it's a take it or leave it issue.

We decided to just drive in with our car (additional 400 bhat). The staff then changed the tickets for us but choose to keep my driving license, which i passed to them when i rented the buggy. They finally returned after i insisted.

Inside the Ancient City, it's like a deadtown. Alot of places are closed for renovations. So there's really nothing much to see.

Bicycles and trams are free to use. Audio guides are also free to rent but one of ours went bonkers and kept switching languages on its own.

All in all, not worth 700 bhat to visit this place and see constructions and renovations going on.‬

‪Pick a good weather day.
Pack sunscreen.
Camera etc. Entrance fees will be slightly discounted if you can present a Thai work permit.
Bicycles and golf carts available for rent.. and very much recommended. This is a large outdoor museum.. and you will not be able to cover everything on foot.
Note.. several sites are active temples as well.. please dress accordingly.
Weekdays appear quieter than weekends.. from the last BTS station (Kheha ) take a cab to the museum approximately 60THB for a one way.
Entrance fees at 700THB.
Food and drink available at various points throughout.
There is active and ongoing constructionsites .. so this museum is not done yet... Will be very interesting to see what else comes.

There is a lot of history here.. or representation of Thai history..
Also several photo points ..
Have an umbrella available and water.. as the sun and humidity can be relentless.

Worth the visit.. despite the location.
Make it a family or romance day.
