This is honestly one of the most unkempt places I have visited in my life. It was that bad, that when we first arrived one of my friends actually thought this wasn’t the actual venue and we were just taking a pit-stop!
The dining hall was a cramped small room with fold away tables and nursery-school sized chairs! It was so small and cramped it could hardly fit >100 students in there and even then it could fit about 30 of us in there, half of us were sitting on the floor! For Breakfast the only options were Rice Krispies or Coco Pops with Stale Croissants and Lunch was a Cheese or Ham Sandwich! Dinner was awful as well and we were so hungry every night and had to ration our snacks! One of my friends even stole an extra sandwich from Lunch to eat in the night because we were all so hungry. Plus, the venue didn't provide drinks and snacks, so the school had to buy them!
The river was not even a proper river - the tide was really unpredictable and quite a few times when we were meant to be doing Water activities we were just waiting around for the tide.
Despite how bad everything else was, the tents were even worse than we could have ever thought! The tents were dirty and unclean when we arrived and filled with bugs!!! There were so many bugs that we had to spray insect repellent in our tent every night before we slept and we slept wearing bug cream and with earplugs in because we were so scared of bugs crawling into our ears in the night. We thought we were going glamping and would have camp beds or air mattresses; however we were given torn up yoga mats which were so uncomfortable to sleep on as we were told we only needed to bring sleeping bags. The yoga mats were so thin and threadbare that I could feel the bumps in the floor beneath the tent and yoga mat. We went in the summer so it got dark pretty late and the tents were so bad we could see the sunlight through them and couldn’t get to sleep until 1am most nights.
The facilities were so bad that there were 2 girls toilets between the whole year group and 2 “clean” showers. The 4 showers in the shower block were so bad that nobody wanted to use them because there were bugs coming out of the drains in them and even in the “clean” showers nobody cleaned them in the 5 days we were there because there was still grass in the bottom of them.
We weren’t allowed inside to use the toilet in the middle of the night and the building was locked so we had to use a disgusting Portaloo. I didn’t believe how bad it was until I went in there and can honestly say I waited until the morning and wouldn’t have used that Portaloo if it was the last toilet on earth! It stank in there, I was retching in the short 15 seconds I was in there for and there were spiders and cockroaches in there too.
The equipment and activities were awful as well. Most of the activities I could have done in my own back garden! The team building activities were more the type that 3 year olds would find exciting and the Paddle boards and Canoes were old and dilapidated. The low ropes course was like a toddler playground and air rifle shooting was literally like the carnival game you can play! The mountain biking activity was a health and safety risk as people were crashing in to bushes and the bikes were old and rusty! The climbing and bouldering equipment was old and rusty. Honestly! We could’ve done most of those activities from school!
The Marquee we were able to sit in was like a big green army tent and smelt funny inside. There were 2 tables for us to sit at and a tiny patio with a broken phone box that didn’t work.
we were all so unhappy we couldn’t wait to go home.
Moral of the Story - DO NOT GO HERE!!!

My daughter has loved the climbing sessions that she has had over the past few weeks. The only thing that would make it better would be to have more instructors, so more climbing time.

I have been coming hear for 6 years and the new top notch equipment has be damaged to such an extent that I don't think people be coming hear enymore if not Put under a proper management

My son absolutely loved his first day at Adur. Amongst other activities they did kayaking, climbing and bouldering. It totally energised him and even though it rained pretty much all day, his huge grin, smile and instant chatter when I picked him up, was pleasure enough as a parent to know he'd had the most wonderful day. Thank you for looking after him so well. We will definitely be back and recommending you - in fact, we already have recommended you to two other boys who came to you last week.

Never witnessed such an outdated and unorganised team in my life.
As soon as me and my friends walked in. The team was so unwelcoming. didn’t even say hello or speak to us. They all where just looking down on the floor, twiddling there thumbs.
Even had to ask if we was in the right place because we felt so uncomfortable.
Had to ask for a refund after a couple of minutes playing on there outdated equipment.
The pathetic lady behind the desk said I had to phone her boss to ask for a refund and when I did he agreed to give us a refund, so naturally I returned to the desk. The rude lady didn’t know how to give a refund so she told me to “go away and phone her boss” after telling me my climbing sucked. So I had to tell her that it wasn’t my job to phone her boss, to tell him that she didn’t know how to do a refund.
Worst experience, and to think people pay yearly memberships there, £300 a year.
Walking out I actually overheard more people saying how bad it was. Young girl telling her mum that she didn’t have fun. “Everything is old and broken”.

We’re really sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the service you received. What you have described certainly doesn’t reflect what we’d expect from staff and for that we do apologise. Our Centre Staff usually receive very positive feedback from visitors for being warm and welcoming. We’re surprised by your reference to outdated equipment though – our climbing facilities have recently undergone upgrades including new ropes and quick draws. It also recently passed its annual inspection once again for quality and safety. We pride ourselves on providing a relaxed and friendly environment for climbers.
Thank you once again – we take feedback of this kind seriously and will be reflecting on it as a team.
