This place amazed me with its not so trek like terrain, plain walking paths with some soil and crushed stones; within the beautiful shades and sounds of a forest. All of this suddenly leads to an open grassland. On one side lush green forest and on the other side Brahman Hump like rocky mountain. All my boredom went away when I slowly started claiming the slippery, rocky path to reach the pinnacle of this wonderful place called "Ettina Bhuja" in Kannda, meaning Brahman Hump of a cattle. This place exactly appears like that. Thoroughly enjoyed this place. Anyone can do this trek up until the rocky mountain, however to climb up one must have guts and good fitness. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip, although this was immediately after our tiresome Bandaje Arbi waterfalls trek of 20+ km on the previous day. I had a leg cramp but that didn't dampen my spirit of this trek. A must see place.

Ettina Bhuja is one of the best treks for Beginners who want to explore the Western Ghats. To start the trek you have to reach - Nanya Byraveshwara temple situated around 25km from Mudigere. The climb might take anywhere from 1 to 1.5 Hours. The forest guards at the entrance will guide you with the trail. You will have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 50 per head. Climbing up the final rock is slightly tricky and would be easier with a shoe that has a better grip. You can stay in one of several homestays in the surrounding coffee plantations or find descent lodges at Mudigere at economical price. Have fun!

An amazing trek for those who miss hard treks in Himalayas, it's a chance discovery that we could locate this hidden jewel. The approach is through a thick forest and climb is a bit slippery as I went when it's raining. As this is at a remote area, it's advisable to have own transport to reach the base. There is an ancient temple and local priest, who also runs a tea shop is quite helpful. One should have good hiking shoes and rain gear. Also advisable to carry a bottle of drinking water and repellent to save from leaches. There are signages all along to guide to the peak. Scintillating views of valley below are fantastic. One has to climb huge boulders in the last 100 mts. Entire area is merged is clouds and it's better to wait for sometime for weather to clear. As we went during weekdays there are no people around. A refreshing and reinvigorating experience.

We had been there at Ettina Bhuja last week. You will surely enjoy the breathtaking view of Western ghats from Peak. I would say this is a must visit place. While on the way, just before 2 kms from peak you will find a Hotel Harish, this is where we pitch our tent. Owner name is Harish. His entire family is so kind and guides the trekkers well. You also can use their washroom for your quick fresh up. A small shop can provide you some soft drinks, biscuits, chocolates etc. Owner can quickly make coffee/tea or any kind of food upon your order. Akki Rotti and Anna-sambar was very tasty, Nice hospitality you will have here. Finally you don't forget to tip them as much as you feel. You can also stay in their home, building new home for homestay purpose. His contact number is 9480071635, 8431255165

A must visit if you love nature and adventure. The trek wasn't that difficult and the view what you get from up there is mind blowing.

Going there is bit difficult but once you reach forest officials would provide you guide. local people are helpful. Remote place won't see crowd, place is beautiful and almost pollution free. If you are going in monsoon remember to carry poncho\raincoat and careful about leeches.
It is easy trek but make sure you have shoe with grip. once you reach up the view is awesome, while going up left side is mangalore and right side is chickmangalore.

Ettina bhuja or shishila gudda can be reached by two ways....the first route is from shishila i.e near ujire dharmasthala..this route is the longest of about 10kms and you need a guide to trek..second route can be reached from Mudigere..about 20kms away from Mudigere..this is the shortest trek of about 2kms. We chose the second route since we were only two of them...from Mudigere take a diversion to byrapura and then ask for bhairaveshwara temple..the google map ll lead you to the exact location..once you reach the temple ..you need to trek for 2kms...the place is worth trekking..i can say the best place i visited so far..

ETTINA BHUJA is an Hillock close to the mudigere town .It's in the shape of the OX's back /shoulder hence the name .Its an hillock which stands tall at 3000 feet from the sea level.This place is called shishilla gudda too since it has two trekking routes once from the mudigere side (Chickmagalur dist) and the other from the shishilla,Dharmastrala side ( Dakshina kannada dist) .The shishilla trek is a tougher one and requires a professional approach as well as local guide assistance .But ,I had been from the mudigere side and this simple trek .We need to reach the Nanya Bhaireshwara temple at the foot hills of the peak which is at a distance of 23 kms from mudigere via gowdahalli .We can park our vehicle and start trekking through a path way leading to the peak .Its an 3 kms trek one way and the result is beautiful view .The bald peak and the mist was just beautiful and the last part of the trek is just a bit scary but manageble and the view from the top is amazing ... Nice trekk through forest .Just get water and something to gobble on the way since you will be starved on return till you reach mudigere . Trekk time 3 hours leisurely . Worth a plan ..
