‪Wanted to go there since long. Take your children, because their children may not see an Orang Utan. We must look to preserve this species, we are their relatives.‬

‪We really enjoyed this trip . We saw many orangutans and the guide was very informative about all the individuals on the island. These primates are very intelligent and guickly learn anything new. A must see if you are in the area.‬

‪It should be a lesson to all of us to see what the disappearance of jungle means to these beautiful creatures. we hired a driver to take us there and lucky we did as it is not as easy to find unless you are a local who can speak the language . once we got to Laketown Resort which was practically deserted as it was out of school and public holidays. the resort is very unkempt and in dire need of spit and polish. from there you take the ferry to the Orang utan Island, where we were met by a guide who told us about the history and need for the place like that if we want to preserve the Orangutang species. oh my god they are so much like humans its scary. we were told a story about each one of them , Adam who cannot be released as he was too humanised from infancy from him they have learned that they are animals and need to be with their own to learn how to survive. Chachi four years old who was brought to the island from Sabbah after his mother was killed when the jungle was cleared for more Palm oil plantations, and was adopted by one of the mothers who already has a two year old , but like some step moms she doesn't show him love and attention like she does to her own. as we were in the enclosure and they were in the jungle environment it was mesmerising to watch them and learn from the professionals how important it is for their survival. the looks, the mannerism and the attention to each other is so much like human species. I could have stayed there longer just to watch their behaviour but, maybe next time. the organisations survives from donations and it is a great way to teach children and adults alike of their importance. great work‬

‪It's about 10 minutes boat ride to reach the island. Boat fee is a bit expensive. Orang Utan on the island is much active at morning, as compared to afternoon‬

‪Drove here from Georgetown. We were lucky as only tourists on the boat and island. Guide was charming. No doubt th ed orangutans would rather have been roaming on their original habitat, but that's disappeared due our palm oil habitat which isn't down to the sanctuary staff. It would not however be worth the 400-500 rm that lots of companies charge. Hire a car or take a cab and arrange yourself. We paid around 190rm for family of 5 entrance fee Inc the boat. If driving from Georgetown you need some cash for the toll roads, around 10 rm 5 or 6 times depending upon the route. Roads ar good quality and Google maps gets you there. After you get down the step hill turn into the Resort complex With large orangutan sign by the water park. Free parking. Takes about 1 hr 15 mins in the car. You can hire a car for 2 days for < 400 rm for 5.

‪I initially wasn't sure if I wanted to go here based on some of the negative reviews here on TA but actually glad I did.
It costs 36 Ringgit each if you are non Malaysian.
A short 5 minute boat trip from the laketown resort area takes you to the island surrounded by the beautiful lake.
As mentioned there are around 14 Orangutans of various different ages and apart from one which has been there since an infant who cannot be released, all others come here, get taken care of and then are placed in the wild.
The place is relatively small and you walk in an enclosed walkway, the orangutans are free to roam. This is true up to a point since the Orangutans are indeed free to roam within their large open air enclosure areas but certainly not like a zoo where the roaming area is minimal.
When we went, we were the only people on the island visiting and so had our guide to ourselves and saw various animals feeding- so felt like a personal tour.
The animals are great characters and I hope they do get released back into the wild where the belong and I hope I have contributed a little bit for preserving this endangered species.
There is a shop as well if interested in souvenirs.‬

‪A ten minute boat ride gets you across to the island where a knowledgeable guide will show you around. The cages are around you, not the monkeys! The whole establishment presents the monkeys in huge enclosures with high trees and var activity features. They are obviously well loved and looked after.
A recent fire destroyed part of the island jetty, fortunately not the hospital and neo natal facilities, however funds are obviously needed to rebuild and donations would certainly go towards a worthy cause. T shirt sales from the shop on the mainland apparently also contribute.
Try to visit early in the morning, first boat 0900, as the visitors are fewer and the Orang Utans awake.
Greatly enjoyed our visit and will definitely come again.‬

‪I was amazed at the beautiful scenery approaching this place, absolutely stunning. Im not so sure that the orangutans were free to roam the island whilst we are in a cage, it did feel the opposite to me. It did feel like a zoo. Never the less, an enjoyable afternoon , hoping that these amazing orangutans are very well looked after and do eventually return to freedom.‬

‪Let’s share care 💪🏻🤝👏🏻🙌🏻 to Malaysia 🇲🇾 ‘s Orang Utan 💚💚 through the Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation by pay a visit to this island 🌴🏝ya 😃😁

Since its inception in 2000, Orang Utan Island 🌴🏖🏝has progressed from being a sanctuary, where visitors experienced 1️⃣st awareness & education on the orangutan, to a recognised ex-site conservation facility & referral centre for the endangered Bornean Orang Utan

As you alight onto the jetty⚓️, keep a look out high among the trees🌳🌳, you may spot 1️⃣ orangutan or 2️⃣, swinging from tree 🌳 to tree 🌳 , maybe even taking a nap 💤😴

Your steps 👣 on the boardwalk take you through a classroom of education in the life of an Orang Utan, where you learn amazing facts about this intelligent primate

Visitors 👫👭👬 were able to view the Orang Utan from the boardwalk & the exhibition area, sparking strong interest & curiousity in these red-haired primates, whose genetic make-up is approximately 97% similar to that of humans

The orangutan, or ‘man (orang) of the forest 🌳🌳 (hutan)’ in the local Bahasa Malaysia 🇲🇾 language, exhibits truly human-like mannerism in many facets of its behaviour

During my visit, I have observed lots of Orang Utan 😍🤩 They are all so cute & smart. To date, there are about 20 Orang Utan on Orang Utan Island 🌴🏖🏝

So, do plan a visit & contribute 💪🏻💪🏻 as you can to this foundation for its research & conservation efforts ya 💚💚
