Contrary to what is shown on Tripadvisor the Brickworks is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays 1100 to 1600 last entry 1500. The Minstead Trust Brickyard cafe is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1000 to 1600. Events once a month next one 26th June 2022 come and see it all steamed up.

The museum is good if you're interested in bricks. The cafe is terrible if you're interested in food. Can you imagine waiting 25 minutes for a single cup for inedible congealed soup? This nightmare became a reality in the cafe at the brickwork museum.

We enjoyed another visit here, this time on one of the free Heritage open days. However, with free parking and a fairly modest entrance fee we usually go on another occasion in the year too. There are several steam events between now and Christmas. The display of chimneys is a favourite for us but we liked the rooms which are set out to show life in different decades too. There’s plenty of outside space and you can get a drink and a snack from the cafeteria.

A lovely day out. We went on an event day so there model railways which my husband liked. The cafe was great with very polite and friendly staff.
The brickworks were really interesting especially from a social history point of view and the volunteers were happy to talk with us.

Visited recently on the heritage day with the steam engines running , during the Covid restrictions, all good with social distencing etc, a very intersesting visit and a nice refreshments in the cafe.

Another visit to my local industrial museum which has reopened following COVID lockdown. Felt safe to visit, currently only open on Thursdays. Well worth a visit to get an overview of local brickmaking.

The place was easy to find. Although we did miss it as the gates hadn't opened, so we drove past it. So don't be too eager to get in. Parked and followed the signs to get in. Met a lovely couple who informed us about the place, follow the map and read the signs to get the most from the experience. Take camera/phone for pics and remember there are stairs to climb. It's a workshop so try to avoid heels.
From the upstairs drying room we spotted a shed out back with traction engines in. Stuart showed us around his engine and told us all about the upkeep and maintenance. Fascinating. A true labor of love. Definitely work a look and a chat.
Men certainly worked hard back then. We have so much to be thankful for.

I had heard of this museum but didn't know about it. I was encouraged to go and glad I did. Much larger than I had anticipated and very informative.

Interesting and entertaining view of the history of the local area. Never knew that bricks (its not just bricks, its local history and there is even a train) would interest me

Can you go to the cafe without paying admission please?
Hello, We are happy for visitors to come and use the cafe without visiting the museum but not when we have an event on. We are simply too busy on those days to be able to cope.

How much is the ticket?

Museum only: Adults £5, Concessions £4 and children £3 (Family ticket £13 and is for 2 + 2)
Steam-Up Events: Once a month we steam the machinery up and hold bigger events. Tickets cost: Adults £7, Concessions £6, Children £4 (Family ticket £18)

Yes, but they will need to dry out so you need to be a bit careful with them!

Are dogs welcome?
Ooops - we missed this question. Yes, dogs on leads are very welcome. We have no problem with them inside and outside the museum. The only place we can't let them go is in the cafe itself but even then there is plenty of seating where you can take your food and have the dog. Hope to see you soon and sorry for the delay in answering.

Opening times over half term please
We are not open for the February half term as it is too cold in the Brickworks. Back in action in April ready for Easter.

Thanks for contacting us. I'm afraid we are closed until April. It is so cold here that it makes opening really difficult. Lots of things to do in the summer half term though.
