It was worth doing this especially as we had a sunny day. It was clear at the top, but windy. It was a nostalgic way to travel!

The ride on historic coaches to the top of Snaefel is a definite must. Best time to travel is probably the afternoon when the mist may have dissipated off the top otherwise it is often enshrouded in mist but it’s still very atmospheric. There is a lovely cafe at the top but unfortunately £5 for a buttered scone (no reduction in price if you didn’t want cream and jam) was out of my price range and the long life milk (or whatever it is but definitely not cows milk) spoilt our drinks. But apart from that it was a fabulous ride with superb scenery, definitely not to be missed.

A really enjoyable few hours. 30 minute trip on electric train to the top was a great trip on its own but to experience the wonderful views from the top was wonderful. A commentary on the train on way up and down was an added bonus. At £16 not the cheapest thing to do on the island but certainly worthwhile. if travelling by Campari in the car park advertLaxey Wheel and take short walk to station / ticket office / cafe.

The electric train ride up Snaefell mountain was very enjoyable. The views at the top were breathtaking! We had a lovely sunny day with clear views around and towards the sea. !!!! There's a nice cafe and gift shop at the top, and good few minutes before the return journey down to Laxey.

Very disappointed. Staff was rude. We had planned our day and brought a 1 day explorer. When we got off the electric railway we had 20 mins before the mountain train only to be told it had already gone as it was full and it was the last train.
We went back the next day and had to pay £16 each to go up the mountain and didn't get to see anything as it was low visibility. Had we of gone the day before we would of had good views. Staff wasn't helpful.

Lovely place but sad to say the customer service was unacceptable and very disappointing. Was treated with disrespect and embarrassed by the way I was spoke to by an employee. Think it’s acceptable to say whatever they want and worse still they think it’s humour’s to get a response from other travellers who are in the area to over hear. Seem to be because they have a captive audience they can behave however they like without regard. Also an issue with the prep booked travellers situation because travelling with young children and animals doesn’t matter if you have a prep book band on. You go straight to the front and that leaves people who have been waiting for an hour or more to just! Well wait!! I generally don’t mean this as a negative review as the trams are beautiful and most of the staff lovely people but I was witness to two situations that I thought where bang out of order full stop.

… but sadly we tried twice during our stay and were unlucky both times, although we did see lovely views of the Laxey wheel, reservoir, waterfall and old mine on our second trip (the first was a complete damp squib in every sense of the word due to heavy rain, but was a fixed item in our group holiday of the island). So don’t assume that a sunny day means cloudless skies at the summit!
The railway itself is a lovely heritage Victorian experience (complete with leaks in heavy rain, we discovered). Timings of the trains link well with the Manx Electric Railway, which shares the station at Laxey, or with the number 3 modern bus. Be aware that you may well have to wait to get on at Laxey as there is only one carriage compared with two for the MER trains.
There is a cafe at the summit, which we didn’t use.

Nature was amazing. The views breathtaking. The organisation? farcical. Cafe prices were ridiculous too.
It’s Not fair allowing tour companies to dictate that their clientele jump the queue to come back down. I spent 1 hour and 30 mins queueing for the tickets I bought just for green wrist band customers to queue jump. This IS NOT fair. The green wrist bands are not available for the general public to buy so basically this day out is being ruined by 3rd party tour companies. As for the cafe? It makes you wonder why you’re asked to wait for the tour companies to board first, is this a scam so that you’re tempted to pay £10 for a coffee and a scone? The views were great. I’ve done it now, wouldn’t do it again and probably wouldn’t recommend it.

This transportation in the IOM just seems to run on time. There is plenty of room on these carriages unless you encounter a large group but the run pretty regular. Try and study the time table as they have different ones running through the week/ year.
As you are taken up the mountain there are a few "attractions" that can be seen and there is a recorded message which plays. The staff were pleasant and a credit to the IOM.

This railway departs from Laxey station, where the electric train running from Douglas to Ramsey stops. Beautiful views that you see going up to the top, where on fine days you can see Ireland, Scotland and Wales. We have climbed and descended by this means, but many prefer to descend on foot.

Once you arrive in IOM where do I book this train
Also is this a day trip or do you need more. Than a day

No it Takes about 3/4 hour. Aprox. I hour + at summit to. Explore. And have then a coffee in the little. Restaurant Wait. For train. To collect All in all about 2 hrs

Peter..was intrigued by this historic railway on the TV show hosted by Mr. Portillo; Great Railway Journeys.
The information re the '7 Kingdoms' being visible from here was great...any more info.on this subject? Would love to get to Man if there are any Town Planning jobs there!
