‪This temple will leave you spellbound. The entire temple is filled with sculptures and carvings of every kind, so intricate and accurate that you wont belief it was done in hard rock. It was constructed around 3000 years back, at the peak of the Hoysala rule and dedicated to Shiva. The 3 shiva lingas and the 3 Nandis facing the lingas are central to the temple. The outer facade has intricate carvings, each one surpassing the other in beauty and craftmanship. There is a large lawn surrounding the temple and a museum as well. This temple alongwith a few others in the vicinity are a must visit in Halebidu, Hassan district, Karnataka.‬

‪After visiting the beautiful temple at Belur, one has to visit the Hoysaleshwara Temple in Halebeedu. Both Belur and Halebeedu are part of the Hassan district and are the few remaining architectural marvels of the Hoysala Dynasty. Halebeedu was the ancient capital of the Hoysalas, the city never recovered post the attacks and has been in ruins for centuries now.

The temple is very clean and has a lot of beautiful stories associated with it. The parking is right around the corner, it would cost you 50 INR. You have some small eateries for you to get some snacks and fresh coconut water. There is no entry fee to the temple and one should spend on hiring a guide as they would explain everything about the temple and share some amazing stories.

The temple has stories about the Ramayana, Mahabharatha, and Bhagavad Gita. The guide would be more than happy to take you around and explain each of these stories in detail. It takes you a good hour or two to explore the temple. It is one of the biggest Shiva temples built during that era although now a lot has changed over the years and everything is not the same.‬

‪Gorgeous temple maintained exceptionally well.
The carvings are really something.
I spent about an hour here.
Heavily recommended - skip Belur and come here :)

Thankfully the space is quite and calm since it is not an active worship temple.

I read about the temples online and took my ownself around but a guide facility is available too if you want to go into more details.‬

‪Hoysaleswara temple is a 12th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. Visited this monument in Karnataka, built on the banks of a large man-made lake, and saw history, rather than read it. The profuse sculptures cast light on life and culture of 12th century South India. It is just about four hours drive from Bengaluru and a must visit gem of Indian architecture.‬

‪Halebidu
Stellar example of hoyasala architecture.
King Vishnuvardhana built the Halebidu temple dedicated to lord shiva .
And ruled over this region Halebidu is known as Dvarasamudra during his reign .
.
Lot of invasions by Delhi sultanate Alauddin kohl ji during 14 th century left only ruins ..

‪Read about the temple and the Hoysalas in our history books, this temple just like Belur Chennakeshava temple is an architectural marvel. Built somewhere in the 12th century this is a prime attraction for the tourists here. There are many monolithic structures here and it is a treat to your eyes. The detailing provided in these structures through manual carvings are unbelievable. The carvings are even better than the ones you find in Hampi. A photographers paradise. The place is usually crowded. Parking is on the main road and usually crowded too as the street is usually busy. They charge Rs. 30 for a four wheeler. There is a footwear stand inside the complex which charges you Rs.5 per pair. This is a must visit place and would surely recommend.‬

‪Located ~20kms from Hassan Chickmagalur highway, this temple represents the best of Hoysala architecture. Well maintained and clean, there are guides to take through the complex if needed. Intricate carvings abound every where and some of these have been damaged due to insensitive actions of visitors. The temple complex is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the lingams are awe inspiring. ‬

‪Was indeed elated to visit Halebid having read about it in my NCERT books! And there stood this beautiful stone carved temple! We went there early morning around 8 am and the temple really helped us ease our tired bones(drove from Bangalore) with its calm and serene sanctity and glimpses of our ancient artistry! The entry is free though you need to pay a parking fee.‬
