What a heart wrenching experience learning firsthand about the tsunami from a survivor. I was so moved by her raw emotion and passion to share and make something good for a horrific experience. Very important to visit. Highly recommend.

This was such an emotional experience but so glad we went as it was so insightful hearing firsthand accounts of what happened. The owner is so knowledgeable and the pictures are harrowing. It’s free to enter but you’ll definitely want to give a donation to support the great work him and his family are doing to support the victims.

A harrowing experience - very grateful to this venue for letting us see what happened here in December 2004 ! It’s very different seeing first hand the devastation that occurred rather than just seeing it on tv. Photos are graphic so if you have children perhaps make a decision whether you want them to see it. It is free to enter however they have a donation box - it is explained where all the donations go to and evidence provided. A really interesting tour I recommend

Must warn it is very graphic but definitely worth a visit. A local man has gathered photos from locals to create the museum. He gave us a tour of the heartbreaking photos & answered any questions. Completely free to visit but a donation is very welcomed by the kind owner & his family. Not too far a walk you can also visit the memorials of people who were sadly killed on a train.

It brought back all my memories of 2004 tsunami where we lost 19 members including 2 babies and 4 kids from my family!! My heart was so heavy, my tearful eyes were searching among the pics to see if I could find someone from my family as their bodies were never found.
I wish you continue this for generations to remind the fury of the nature and we all humans are just dust in this earth and not one is superior to another.

We made our sixth visit to the Tsunami Museum, enroute to Galle, and were welcomed once again by the lady owner. The strength of the tsunami and the devastating damage it did will be remembered forever in the photographs in the museum.

A thought provoking collection of photographs which show how insignificant the human race is and how powerful yet unkind nature can be. We sincerely hope that nothing like this will ever happen again to the kind people of Sri Lanka! Thoroughly recommended! Entrance is free–donations for the orphaned children are welcome.

Anbefales.

How do we get to the museum from hikkadwa? Tuk tuk? How much should the fare be? As nothing else in area to see?

Costs very little. I went by tuk tuk and gave the driver double what he asked which was only £2!
Worth the trip. Very moving place.
