A very special little museum and could happily have stayed browsing longer but a big school party was arriving - lucky them! Really good explanation of early print machines and you can even have a go, a nice touch. Would totally recommend if you have an hour or two to spare in your Cretan travels.

Μοναδικό μουσείο στο είδος του. Η ξενάγηση γίνεται με μεράκι και αγάπη στο αντικείμενο. Πέρα από την τυπογραφία το μουσείο έχει έκθεση με ιστορικά βιβλία, την ιστορία της γραφής και ένα νέο τμήμα με ιστορικές φωτογραφικές μηχανές.

This is a hidden gem that deserves more attention. We stopped by one afternoon and were greeted by Elia. Since we were the only ones in the museum at that time, Elia gave us a private tour. The museum has an amazing collection of printing technology from ancient to modern times. You could spend about an hour or more here. They also do workshops sometimes. We had a fantastic visit.

Great little museum, really well laid out and a brilliant tour guide. Truly a hidden gem that wasn’t mentioned in any of the guide books we purchased!

An excellent museum! Very well designed, anyone would enjoy a visit here. Plenty to engage those who know a lot about printing and those who don't know anything (and who think they don't care, but I defy them to visit and not find something fascinating to them). A big collection and text in greek, English and French. Plan to spend at least an hour there, there's lots to see and you may even have a chance to do some real printmakong. Right now you can only visit by appointment but just email them, it's easy to arrange and the woman who toured us there was just wonderful. Combine a visit to this museum and the craft village just a couple blocks away, and you will have a really pleasant, interesting, and non-touristy afternoon in Chania while still being a tourist.

Δεν ειχα ξανα επισκεφτει κατι τετοιο σε μουσειο,ιδιαιτερο θα ελεγα και πολυ ομορφο το συγκεριμενο.Αρκετα λεπτομερης και επεξηγηματικο.Αξιζει να το επισκεφτειτε αν ειστε κοντα,συνδιοαστε το με το νεκροταφειο στη Σουδα.

Очень интересный музей о технологии, которая ещё не так давно правила миром. Были в нем с ребёнком 10 лет, как раз за это время всё это стало антиквариатом. Машины в отличном состоянии, посетителям можно напечатать газету на прессе 19 века. Отдельно стоит отметить выставку об истории письма - 40 великолепных работ на тему письменности и коммуникаций.

We tried to get to this museum by public bus from Chania which takes you to Souda but it is not possible to walk from there so you might as well take a taxi from Chania directly. The price is about the same anyway (€9-10).
The museum may be hard to find but there are signs on the road and directions on the website.
The exhibition itself is absolutely wonderful and well worth a visit even if you aren’t fanatic about typography or printing. There are several rooms full of equipment and images/prints. They also seem to be doing events there occasionally which is nice.
There is also a little shop selling souvenirs (books, posters, postcards, etc. but also some drinks and snacks) and toilets are available.
The lady who worked there was lovely and gave us a short tour, which included some actual printing. She was very knowledgeable and friendly and actually works as a journalist for the newspaper that runs the museum. She also arranged for a taxi to pick us up when we were done.
Great place. Worth the time and effort to get there.

This is one of the best museums about printing and typography in the world and I've seen most of them! The Greek word for typography also means printing so you see both. The equipment is in great shape and you can do some hands-on printing (with special arrangement). There are facilities for demonstrations, speakers, and multi-media presentations. I especially enjoyed the special exhibition on the history of letterforms-unique and well presented. I think this museum would appeal to more than printers and typographers, and is quite educational.

A great experience! A lovely and a unique museum. The word "Typography" in Greek means "Printing" and this museum displays the evolution of the printing industry and the various technologies that were used since Gutenberg. All very well displayed and explained.
We arrived here on a Monday - the only day that the museum is closed!!! - The gardener insisted to call the only person that was inside (Elia, not sure about the spelling). We were totally prepared to return on another day, but Elia was very courteous and insisted to open the museum especially for us and to give us a private tour. We truly appreciated this wonderful gesture, and thank you very much again !
One word of advice - The museum is located on a small industrial park outside of Souda and road signs are scarce. I strongly recommend the use of Google maps in order to find the place

You definitely should plan a visit to the unique in Greece Museum of Typography and there you will get all your answers! :-)
The museum collection includes hard to find, cast iron printing presses and other machines, as well as tools and objects that present the development of typography from birth, in the days of Gutenberg, up to our days. Rare books and newspapers, as well as our precious lithographies, travel the visitor in the art of Typography.
Plus, there are collection exhibits that related to the development of graphic arts, as well as two important exhibitions regarding the evolution of typography and the history of writing. During guided tours children and adults have the opportunity to print on the old printing presses.
So we will be happy to see you at the museum in the near future and give you a tour.
