The guided tour was fantastic! The guide man gave us special and interesting information. The lowest level of the house is from the ancient age! If you want to learn mind-blowing things about Malta's history, this is the most perfect place for you! Totally worth to visit, I recommend it from my heart! This is the most excellent museum in the 3 cities according to me and the guide man knows every single detail of the house where is the museum located.
Call them to book an appointment. There is no entrance fee, only donations. I am thankful to had a chance to visit it!

A very well kept museum with a lot of history. Some people say that it is haunted. I have been in more than once, but I never saw anything extraordinary

Not an historian, I was taken back in time by the owner to a world of wonders. This visit, I will always remember, thinking of Malta.

This house is a thousand years old. It has been standing and experiencing various rules by the Arabs, French, Knights Templars and the fierce World Wars. It is a privately owned museum.
There are steps to climb up or down. No lifts available.

John Vella è un garbato intellettuale che circa vent’anni fa comprò un’antica casa di Cospicua per tenervi la propria collezione di libri. La casa aveva una cantina completamente ingombra di detriti, che una volta asportati hanno rivelato reperti probabilmente punici e romani. Da allora John dedica tutto il prior tempo libero e la propria passione alla valorizzazione della casa e, indirettamente, della storia di Cospicua, mostrando oggetti della vita quotidiana che gli abitanti del villaggio gli regalano. Un’ora in sua compagnia permette di compiere un viaggio in una storia minore, ma non per questo meno appassionante: ogni angolo, arredo o graffito sulle mura della sua casa svela una storia avvincente da raccontare, o un’ipotesi suggestiva da indagare. E’ aperto al sabato e alla domenica mattina, negli altri orari su appuntamento.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the museum is a hidden gem. You have to make an effort to get to and find the museum (unless you stay at Julsys B & B (which you should), which is only a block away). You should make the effort.
Unlike most museums, in which you learn about the great and powerful, this museum teaches you about how regular people lived their lives. The museum is a house the passionate owner has been excavating and restoring. He gives a tour, which lasts for about 90 minutes. You start at the bottom with a 1,000 year old Arab era dwelling and move your way up the stories 500+ years to the home of a wine merchant.
The museum is on a neighborhood street a couple of blocks from Vittoriosa (Birgu) and makes a good starting point for later visits to the sights of that city. The museum is open only on weekend mornings.

Een echt authentiek prive museum op Malta waar je de historie werkelijk kunt zien en uitgelegd krijgen van circa 1000 ad. Een verborgen pareltje

Este pequeño museo está ubicado en Bornla, en las Tres Ciudades, y no está muy bien indicado para localizarlo. Nosotros llegamos usando mapa y preguntando a vecinos. Es una casa familiar muy antigua que nos fue enseñando su propietario con la máxima amabilidad, explicando su historia y cada detalle de la misma en inglés o italiano. Aparte de observar la arquitectura de una casa que puede tener más de quinientos años, se puede observar una colección de objetos que se usaban en la vida cotidiana medieval (hornos, cocinas, pozo, útiles de cocina…) y en una sala también guarda objetos relacionados con la vida maltesa durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
No hay nada espectacular, pero no defrauda la visita por las explicaciones que durante media hora te van dando de cada elemento del museo.
Nosotros lo visitamos un sábado por la mañana e hicimos un donativo voluntario. No creo que tenga un horario muy amplio porque es de total gestión privada, sin ayudas públicas. Una anécdota de la calidad humana del propietario de la casa es que al salir del museo se cayó nuestro hijo de seis años en la calle y al oir los lloros salió de la casa para interesarse por el estado del niño y sacó lo necesario para desinfectar una pequeña herida que se hizo.
Así pues salimos muy contentos de esta visita, que literalmente permite palpar la historia del lugar.

Very worthwhile visit to a house which shows how it developed over thousands of years, with a knowledgeable guide in John Vella. Also full of exhibits from many eras. Certainly worth more than one visit and needs to be more widely advertised.

Museo molto interessante sulla storia di Bormla (Cospicua). Un viaggio nel tempo dai fenici ai nostri giorni.
Il direttore ci ha guidato nel museo con tanta professionalità e attenzione.
