The waterfall is beautiful but the road is a disaster right now. Spring snowmelt after a big winter means potholes the size of a small car along Fallen Leaf Road. There are approximately a half dozen spots where cars are regularly bottoming out, so be very careful if you choose to drive the road. It’s one lane with a few places you can pull over to let a line of cars pass the other direction. But many of the pullouts are now heavily rutted and full of water. I would not go there in a rental car or anything that’s not 4WD. Parking is very limited. If you like to walk, consider walking the lake road and parking further out. Be careful on bikes too, the potholes and loose debris on the road are treacherous.

This is a pretty set of waterfalls that seems like a movie set, like being on a tram somewhere between Jaws and the Psycho House.
The cascades are like rows of staircases running icy, rushing water 65 feet down to a small terrace before continuing down the slope.
Accessibility is "easy", but not effortless.
First, though the falls can be seen from the roadside, you must first GPS the Fallen Leaf Fire Department and essentially drive up a one-way road with two-way traffic. There are occasional wider sections of the neighborhood road that allow people to separate and pass, so with low speeds and a little patience, you can squeeze up and down the hill. (Don't mix that up and drive up with low patience and a little speed).
Second, if you plan to climb to the falls (assuming a safe water flow, as found in summer and fall), the short climb is potentially dangerous, requiring you to be nimble and careful, so I don't recommend it for people with mobility or attention issues.
Third, instead of a parking lot, there are dedicated spots for a few dozen cars. I am not sure if it is legal to park there. Websites claim there is parking left at the Glen Alpine trailhead sign across from Lily Lake.
Finally, I am not sure if there are two viewing spots, one lower or higher, based on the variety of pictures I find online. Allegedly, there is a seasonal second waterfall before Glen Alpine Creek.
All of this is worth it. Worth a photo for the gram, a picnic for the ambiance, or even an icy soak for the thrill.

You will find the road to Glen Alpine Falls next to the fire station near the end of Fallen leaf Lake road. When it is snowy you have to park at the road and hike in about 1/2 mile to the falls, but in warm weather you can drive right up to the flat areas near the falls. Such a beautiful and impressive waterfall! You can't really get into the water in winter and spring when the flow is high, but we have walked along the slate ledges in fall when the flow drops much lower. Take a picnic and enjoy the sounds of the water while eating

This is a waterfall that foams over many rocks while coming down the hillside. The views are spectacular, with the mountains as a beautiful backdrop to these falls. At first I didn't know if we should proceed, as the road was a single lane and looked quite rustic (but it is paved). We had no mishaps - every oncoming driver was quite courteous and we managed just fine. The reward of the sight of the falls at the end of the road was definitely worth the drive.

The waterfall was pretty disappointing. The drive to get there was quite the experience though. Most of the road there is one lane with areas to pull off so vehicles going in the opposite direction can pass. Some interesting houses to see along the way. I would not put this at the top of your list to see.

Though much diminished from the picture in the June 2019 review by carolynf486, the falls are still beautiful in autumn. And the drive's not bad when there's not much traffic to contend with. Well worth a day-trip up from Lake Tahoe. And treat yourself to lunch at the Beacon on the way back.

beyond Fallen Leaf Lake are a couple great waterfalls - first one is right on the road and second one is a short hike - road can be busy and require some pullouts but worth it

Not a long hike, about 50 feet but really cool. They have sitting pools and it’s just a beautiful site.

It’s a great waterfall outside the city of Tahoe. A good one to check out while on your way out of Tahoe towards Bay Area. It is worth the detour for an hour. Finding parking might be a bit troubling but it is totally worth it.

Loved that this is off the beaten path, not well known. Great spot to visit if you are into falls - hairy drive in though!

I am looking online to see if there are several choices for which day hike to take once we get to the falls. Does anyone have a recommendation? Or is there really just one main trail that leads to many of the alpine lakes above the falls? Thanks!

You can see the falls from the road. It is a very bumpy road, so some people don't drive in all the way to the falls, but you can drive up very close if you are willing to.
