The Lower Eagle Falls Trail is a lovely trail in Emerald Bay State Park. It starts at the State Park Visitor Center and quickly climbs via rocky stairs to the spectacular Lower Eagle Falls. When I visited in July, the water flow was not robust, but the scenery was still spectacular. The whole trek back & forth is less than a mile. But, note that getting to the trailhead from the State Park parking lot requires an additional one mile hike (downhill from the parking lot). If you are visiting the State Park do not miss this short waterfall hike.

There was literally no where to park within a mile of this trail. The parking is limited and it was very busy. Had to give it a miss

If you can do the Vikingsholm trail hike to get down here, then you can easily do this one. It’s short and you are rewarded with a stunning waterfall at the end. It is uphill, but not nearly as bad as some others.

Nice waterfall but it will be dried up by summer, so visit during the spring runoff.
State Park parking lot is always full. Also trail is NOT dog friendly.

We got down to the beach from Vikingholm parking lot, saw the mansion and then walk up a short trail to see the first cascade from a bridge, then continue going up the trail until it ends. Great view of the waterfall, gorgeous!!!

DOn't bother going to this it is not that worth it. I would recommend eagle falls 100 percent over this one.

We went there last summer. I just wanna warn people not to even bother. It is not the best thing to waste your day trying to do.

Easy walk, short distance, but be careful! Must see near Emerald bay. Get there EARLY! Limited parking. Beautiful pictures from there.

One of the more easily accessible falls in Lake Tahoe. Parking fills up quickly. Short walk to get to area below bridge, with some rocks and trees to get around. Not difficult.
You can sit next to cliff where the water spills over. We were there in May, so water runoff from snow was still at a good volume.

The waterfall is as pretty as most but nothing spectacular and not worth the parking fee and walk just to see it unless you want to go on a trail hike through the park. The parking lot is very small and usually filled on the weekends.

How is the weather/hiking conditions in January?

Most of the time in January it will be cold and many times the road to Eagle falls will be closed due to avalanche controls. If you are not experienced in being in snowy conditions with the the right clothing I would not recommend going in January. The road s are icy and you never know what the weather is going to be like.

How long does the hike from the parking lot to Eagle Lake take (time or distance)? or how long the other way to Emerald Bay?

I honestly can't answer that. We were taken by a photographer in their vehicle and I honestly was too busy looking at the scenery and sights to actually pay attention to how long it took. I can tell you that trekking to the falls wasn't difficult and I'm a senior citizen with bad knees!

It's about 30 minutes of walk from parking lot to the beach near the Viking's House. No need to be a hiker. Then you can walk for another 15 minutes and you are by the falls.
During the winter watch for icy stairs.

We will be in the Lake Tahoe Area between April 4-April 7.

I agree with the other answer on the weather. Just watch the forecast when you are closer to your dates. There are a few narrow steep roads that could get sketchy. The view of Emerald Bay is great from there. (Go to the Vista point to have the best vantage point on the trail)

You'll need to hike down to the beach at Emerald Bay. Start at the visitor center. It's a fairly short hike.
Can you see the waterfalls at this time of year? The pictures look beautiful but I'm not sure when they were taken and we will be there in mid-August.

We were there in mid July and you could absolutely see the water falls. Not sure about now. I would think so. It a beautiful hike regardless.

Yes. We stayed in the main area. My kids were 6&8. It still had some snow on the ground but other families went farther than us with even smaller kids. We spent a good hour walking around.

What is the weather for this location like in mid March? I plan on heading there around that time and I am not sure if I should wear heavy jackets or normal summer hiking gear!

This is Tahoe, so I would recommend to always carry heavy jackets in the car at all times. It might be nice one day and snowing later in the day or the next day. We even get snow into April, so yes always be prepared. It's better to have them and not need them then not have them and need them is what I always say. Enjoy your trip.
