The original monastery was inundated/flooded when a dam was built on the Danube River. Later, the monastery was rebuilt off the river.

Manastirea Mraconia est situé en bordure du Danube. Notre croisière Emerald Waterways, de Bucharest à Budapest passait devant ce monastère richement protégé et agréable à regarder.
Un joyau patrimonial et historique pour ces pays.La légère vague du bateau frôle la terrasse.

Manastir se nalazi na rumunskoj obali Dunava. Originalna zgrada se nalazi malo nizvodno od ovog mesta, potopljena je prilikom izgradnje djerdapske brane, pa je manastir sagradjen na novom mestu ali nosi staro ime. Prvi put se pod ovim imenom pominje u 16 veku. Videli smo ga prilikom krstarenja Dunavom, a moze se lepo videti i sa djerdapske magistrale.

We had an opportunity to see this spectacular church and I will have to say it is very nice with a great location.

Since you come to see King Decebal just a few hundred meters uproad in direction of Dubova, you will find on top of a rock this small but very beautiful monastery.
Here are the facts:
- this Monastery got rebuilt starting the year 1990 - the original 1 built in the XVIth century got demolished by the communist regime and the place where it was originally is now under water since the dam at the "Iron Gates" has been built.
What you'll find:
- in terms of parking leave the car where you parked it to see the statue of Decebal.
- at the monastery there is no parking available.
- the monastery is open daily - but not for the whole day - don't get surprised if you find it closed late in the evening or early in the morning.
- it is a small place - larger groups have to wait in order to take turns visiting it.
- it is a Christian Orthodox monastery - so it is a place of worship please respect this and dress appropriately, don't talk loud and try not to disturb those praying.
- if you want candles or other items from the church you can leave the money in the boxes that are set up there.
- visiting doesn't cost anything is no fee - but like at any place like this donations are welcome.
- inside is smelling of incense and the interior walls are decorated with biblical scenes - very beautiful, regardless if you are a religious person or not it is worth to stop for a few minutes and admire this church.
Overall I recommend you visit the place - since you are in the area it is really worth it.
