This is worth a visit since very few buildings dating back to Saxon times remain. This building has ancient areas rather than a few stones in the ground. The surrounding forest of Dean bordering on the river Severn make the whole area worth a visit

Plain but historic. Saw the English heritage sign and on a whim we followed the signs. Parked at end of a tiny road, the Chapel on our left as we drove past. Simple. Empty. Good descriptions of the chapel on a series of boards. Use a torch to find the circle with 4 ‘petals’ on the fireplace beam it’s to right of centre. Certainly worth a look. Then for sure look at the church just down the road, it’s pretty stunning.

Interesting historic building not much parking. Interesting history as the chapel was rediscovered in 19th century. It is from 1056. Don’t miss Deerhurst priory very close.

Quiet building with a lot of history. Parking available. Information provided in the building detailing points of interest. Church nearby also worth a visit.

Friday 24 November 2023, my husband and I came to visit Odda's Chapel which is under the care of The English Heritage.
We parked our car opposite in the small car parking area. Odda's Chapel is a well maintained building showing its unique historical structure from Saxon times. The chapel was incorporated into a Tudor farmhouse to form an extended house, which is still privately lived in and owned.
This act enabled us to have the luxury of visiting it today. The chapel is devoid of any church architecture i.e. font, pews etc.; yet the chapel has a kind of ethereal charm. Its quietness is very soothing to the soul.
There is a carved wall stone, where once was the fireplace, and if you look up you can see the abandoned rooms of the former house above you.
If you like Saxon history, then this is definitely a place to visit.
PLEASE NOTE: As Odda's Chapel is very near the River Seven, please check the Government Flooding Website before visiting in bad weather, as this area is known to flood and has a automatic flood barrier just before you get to Odda's Chapel.

Probably one of the oldest buildings you will ever stand in. If you love old places, if you like utterly uncrowded, peaceful, tucked away locations, if you like seeing this for free then visit this lovely place.

titta gärna in till den vanliga församlingskyrkan i Deerhurst. En kontinuerlig kyrka från 800-talet! Alla tidsepokerna känns närvarande!

Interesting place, worth a diversion from the Severn Way, a short distance along the Sabrina Way. Nearby St Mary's church in Deerhurst also worth a view.

The shell of an Anglo-Saxon church that has largely survived thanks to it being incorporated into a medieval farmhouse before it was rediscovered by the Victorian vicar of the nearby, and also wonderful, Deerhurst church.
Unencumbered by pews, fonts and other more recent paraphenalia this gives a good idea of how the chapel would have looked. The fact that one end remains half-converted into an extension of a medieval farmhouse adds interest from another period - the timber construction is laid bare for you to see.
Park here, have a look and then walk back to Deerhurst church for a very enjoyable double visit.

Remote and beautifully sited Saxon Church. Very serene in and around it. Also an interesting history, built by a local Thegn in 1056 in memory of his deoarted brother.

Is it possible to have a memorial bench at the site if either Oddas chapel or St Mary's church?
