With views over the downs, this is a lovely and peaceful setting for a funeral. The car park is a little small and the barn where the service is held only holds around 60 so not always room enough !! Nice walks too through the garden of rememberence

To avoid being disappointed, suggest you talk to staff regarding location of plots, scattering etc. Although only open for 7 years, this location is filling fast. Unfortunately we chose a location before asking and my father was very upset.

Let me start by saying what a wonderful place this is which I applaud
The outlook is glorious with views of the Jack n Jill windmills and tranquil despite the sometimes noisy proximity of the main road
This type of burial centre absolutely should be the future of burials not unkempt Victorian monoliths
However pragmatic and realistic practicalities need to be immediately undertaken notwithstanding it’s situated in the Sussex Downs National Park
1. The Barn/ Chapel (why not call it a Pavilion so it’s not a farm or religious connotation?) is very attractive but far too small. It holds only 60 mourners
Another 40 can stand on the decking if the French windows are opened if it’s fine. We had 60 outside on the decking n grass n 60 inside
No external temporary benches or seating provided ? Why not ? The weather was okay for the funeral we attended but had it been wet and or cold it would have been wholly intolerable for them some of whom were of a certain age
Consent was refused for a temporary gazebo to house those outside albeit at no cost to the Burial Ground. Why?
2. The car park is too small and not great frankly
Only when lots of cars turned up were arrangements suddenly made with staff only then on hand
3.The two loos are not even part of or adjacent to the Barn/Chapel but some distance away in the office
So a truly great place in essence but realistic improvements need to be addressed to make it more fit for purpose for mourners attending a funeral

Not sure I can review this as a place to visit generally but if you are looking for a resting place for a loved one, it doesn’t get much better. Stunning views of the South Downs and the Jack and Jill windmills, a wonderful growing wood that is just now starting to take shape and will of course outlast many generations to come. And there is a food and drink kiosk but it’s pretty unpredictable with opening times. To come and sit and contemplate, it is a truly wonderful spot, the only noticeable sounds really being birdsong and the occasional passing train.

Quiet, dignified service. Very peaceful and tranquil setting.
Room not over large. Stood on veranda. This might have been more of an issue had the weather been wet or colder. Also, standing on the veranda made it difficult to hear what was said inside the room. Car park not over large.

With a recent passing of a well loved relative and friend this was my first visit to this unique natural burial ground. The whole idea based behind the concept of a natural burial ground I found both enlightening and very moving. Whilst it must be said that there was considerable noise from the major road on the perimeter I believe that it does not detract too much from the concept. The organisers have reduced noise from vehicles within the complex by placing rubber pieces insde the carpark to mask the sound of vehicles entering and leaving the park during services. The grounds are well maintained and there are excellent views of the south downs with the windmills on the horizon. The service I attended was held in a well presented building that looked out toward the majority of the grounds and make the occasion a good place for reflection of life. There is a railway line also on the perimeter, but on my visit there were no trains passing.

An outstanding setting for a natural burial ground. The site itself is covered in trees and wild flowers, it overlooks the rolling south downs. A stream and pond are in the grounds. It is a large site so although close to a road and railway line they are hardly heard, I was there wandering around the site for two hours and only noticed one train. I asked one of the friendly and helpful staff and she said some train enthusiasts, actual reserve a spot as close to the train line as possible. They also run a Bereavement Centre where 'Coffee, Care and Cake' sessions bring the recently bereaved together. Many people find this a comfort and after a few sessions also establish new friendships.

Kept driving past Clayton Natural Burial grounds and after my dad passed away 2 years ago I decided to go in and see what this was about. I love the fact that there are no headstones, no marbles and no pretentious things. I love the trees, the meadow flowers and the pond and actually bought a plot there for when my turn comes. Have shown this place to many friends, some from France who wished they could be buried in a similar place.
The view to the Jack and Jill windmills is outstanding and my plot faces them.

Opened in 2008 and all nameplates are carved in wood. Already some are looking weather-beaten - but what a wonderful site to walk round. Pond in the corner and views looking towards Jack & Jill Windmills on the Downs. Surely it won't be too long before the sapling trees planted will look more like a wood. Saw butterflies, dragonflies and a pair of Buzzards overhead.

This may sound rather strange question but if it has been heavily raining would you need waterproof foot wear ? Not the sort of thing you would normally wear to a funeral obviously but suspect there are no hard paths ? Thank.

We attended a funeral in September n it hadn't been raining n wasn't icy
There are no paths so in inclement weather you'd need good footwear not heels
