Museum is great-so many things to see. Wildlife photographer of the year exhibition very good. Cafe-cakes good. Such a shame panninis dry as dust! A wasted opportunity with plenty of space and customers wanting to support the cafe.

The Egyptian and dinosaur areas are really good for the kids. And a good cafe. But the museum is very preachy about history. I prefer to make up my own mind and not be lectured to.

Way too heavy in politics. The entrance hall is now dominated by large ‘diversity’ cutouts’ with the usual slogans. A large sign as well about the building and slavery. Why not also tell us about this beautiful architecture and what inspired it?
We used to go to the bookshop, which was always very well stocked with lots of books on Bristol’s varied past e.g Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the Bristol School of artists and the city’s magnificent Victorian architecture etc. No longer - just a meagre selection restricted almost entirely to street art and to the slave trade.
The labelling of art follows the same pattern. In front of a Victorian painting of India there is a brief diatribe against colonial rule but no attempt at all to present a rounded view. And in the Enlightenment painting gallery more of the same - they are not really interested in the incredible and exciting achievements of the period but slinging more mud at the British. Should our publicly-funded museums and galleries be used by their directors to further their partisan politics?

A large and diverse range of really interesting exhibitions. Could spend hours here - it has a lovely atmosphere. Great coffee and cake in the cafe too!

Impressive exhibits showcasing local history and diverse art. Some areas could use a bit more attention. I was generally satisfied with the time spent.

This time to see the Wildlife Photography exhibition (extra, paid ticket required). The exhibition was great and for some reason I prefer it here than it its former home at M Shed. The exhibition was well laid out and thought provoking as ever. And I liked its new home being amongst the museum.

The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery was donation admittance and honestly I wasn't expecting a lot. I went with my boyfriend and we had the time of our lives. It was so fun to explore everything and learn about bits of everything. This isn't just a place for people who like art, but for people who like learning!

How long does it takes to go around the museum?

The Museum is not massive and you can spend as short or as long as you like depending on your interests. There is plenty to see there though. I could spend a couple of hours there myself.

Hi - Sorry - only just seen this.
We were on foot I'm afraid so would not have been able to give you a decent answer.
Hope you went and enjoyed the Museum as we did.

Is there enough to keep a 4 year old and a 6 year old interested?
BristolMuseums
بريستول, UK
Hello,
There is plenty for people of all ages to see and do at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
On the ground floor we have Curiosity - a space for under 7's to play and explore. You can also grab an Explorer Pack from the Shop (for a small refundable deposit). Our first floor galleries are a big hit with children; with dinosaurs, British and World wildlife, (including Alfred the infamous Bristolian Gorilla), a beautiful caravan and interactive family areas there is plenty to explore.
During school holidays we offer Family Fun days, coming up soon:
Wicked Warrior Treasures - Thurs 13th April 2017
Sew Good - Thur 20th April 2017
We hope to see you and your children soon!
