We arrived to see the collage exhibition. We also saw the exhibition of the Chester Rows which was really good. The staff were helpful and it would have been 5* had it not been for the fact that the place was overrun with very noisy, boisterous children and equally loud teachers who seemed to be out of control of the situation. We missed the Roman section as a result. The collage exhibition which was the purpose of the visit was somewhat underwhelming but the Chester Rows made up for it.

We visited the museum recently after not having been for many years. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who pointed us in the right direction to look around. We found there was plenty to look at including the History of Chester and the Edwardian House rooms. It was interesting to see what some of the old buildings in the city were used for and what they are now. Enjoyed the details about Browns of Chester and the outfits.It took us about 1 and a half hours to walk round. Free admission but we gave a fair donation and would definitely recommend.

Fantastic museum with a brilliant exhibition about the Chester rows through paintings. Free admission although donations are encouraged - can do cash or card at machines around the building. Took us 4 hours to look at the whole place starting with an introductory dvd playing in the first room. Lots of different galleries covering silver, romans, rows etc and a house dressed in different time periods which we especially loved. Tea room is small and limited but welcome all the same. Very friendly and helpful staff. Was busy at times with school visits but we just went in whichever places were quietest. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

On my day off I went for a visit to the Grosvenor museum Chester with my family. When I got there I was very impressed with how much history of Chester you can see all in one place. From the Roman Chester to the present day. With 3 floors of history and art to see.a great places to take your kinds in the school holiday.Highly recommended a visit and I was amazed at how much there is to see and do at this museum. With free entry (5 star visit)

Sadly such a missed opportunity.Obviously underfunded being a mishmash of interesting history,dumb downed children items. No coherence at all, poor disabled access.

The museum does have some interesting pieces, however I feel the majority is very much targeted to school age children. However, still interesting.
My friend and I enjoyed the re-creation of rooms towards the rear of the museum that shows history in a interesting way as you head from the kitchen, to the parlour, to the bedroom etc. Free to enter, though donations are suggested. They accept cash and contactless forms of payment.

This museum is lovely and it is worth a visit if you are in Chester as you can see some displays about the Romans and how they lived. We liked the nice display of Chester silver and also the Edwardian house which is next to the shop. When visiting the house, it was nice to look at all rooms to see how people lived at that time and we compared how we are living now. It was also very interesting to look at the wildlife room. While visiting Chester, we attended a presentation in the evening in the amphitheatre and there were some nice paintings and artefacts displayed there.

This is free to enter and has some interesting Roman exhibits as well as some fine paintings and furniture.

How embarrassing that a city as historic as chester has such a poor museum. It hasn't changed much in 30 years and is mainly aimed at children.
Compared to museums in other historic cities like Shrewsbury or York it is an absolute embarrassment.

If you are interested in the history of Chester, this is the place to visit. From the Romans to the medieval times, you can learn a lot about the city here. There is also an art exhibit and a nature exhibit, where you can learn about the animals that live in the UK.

Unfortunately none of the museum staff are producing eggs at this moment .
Your pet tortoise will have to be kept chained up outside as we are worried he might try to chew dinosaur bones sorry
