‪Great beach - near the middle of East Looe - nice sand - would be great on a sunny day but the day we were there it was cloudy - loved walking along the banjo pier too.‬

‪So close to town, nice breezy beach. Great place to go!
Pity dogs are not allowed but at least the walk along the wall gives a good view of the sea. Loved it...‬

‪I thought I had covered most harbour towns in Cornwall but hopped off the bus to discover this beautiful harbour. I was blessed with gorgeous weather. Walked around the harbour and enjoyed a coffee watching the world go by. Lots of eateries/ pubs/ shops. I had a lovely day and met some very friendly people. Surprised how busy it was for out of season but like myself enjoying a much needed break from the workplace‬

‪Not much food/drink support actually at the beach front but only a short walk from the town and harbour. Nice spot for chilling out though.‬

Before I write the review, please be aware that if you register your blue badge with Cornwall County Council it will only cost £10 for parking for the entire year. Something I’d recommend you do if you have a blue badge. It will save you a lot, particularly if you get parked in a car park where you find an incline too steep for the wheel chair having paid already, as we did in St Ives. We did write to the Council, but they wrote an extremely patronising reply which in short stated ‘everyone knows St Ives has steep hills, so tough’. Of course we hadn’t realised the vertical drop at St Ives, or we wouldn’t have parked where we did, and certainly wouldn’t have paid over £8 for the pleasure. It was too late for us because we were already at the end of our holiday having spent near on £80 just for parking across the County in one week but they did send us the link to their disabled parking exemption scheme so we hope it will help other disabled travellers. They don’t advertise this at their car parks. If you do risk just pay as you go parking, there are no concessions, you pay the same as able bodied and get one hour extra parking.

I’m not allowed to post the link to the Council web page but details of Cornwall County Council disabled parking exemption scheme can be found on their web site.

East Looe:

Looe was lovely, it was the first place we visited. We parked in the Mill Pool Car Park. We were there off season so there were plenty of disabled spaces. The car park was hard standing so easy for all wheel chair types. There are also toilets in the car park which are clean and tidy. There was a fairly steep hill from the car park to the bridge which will be fine for electric wheel chairs but might be quite difficult for anyone pushing. Wheel chairs have to use the road to get to the bridge because pedestrian access has steps so watch out for traffic on the narrow road.

It then dips down again to the bridge so there are hills for both journey to and from the car park. There is a lovely view down the river. There are quite wide pavements on the bridge itself which is flat and a pelican crossing over the bridge itself. You may get some nice photos down the river as you cross the bridge. The town is designed for pedestrians and there is another car park which is on the flat and hard standing by the bridge itself which is called Looe Harbour Car Park. If you park here then there are no hills all the way to East Looe beach. I was full when we arrived though, and that was a cloudy day out of season so do be prepared to park elsewhere.

The streets are tarmac and winding. Very suitable for all wheel chair types. It’s very picturesque and has kept some of it’s fishing town vibes with the fish market by the river and the fishermen’s cottages. It’s flat and tarmac all the way to the beach and there is a ramp up to the Banjo Pier where wheel chair users can enjoy the view. West of the river is very steep and would be hard work for anyone propelling themselves or pushing someone but is perfectly suitable for mobility scooters and electric wheel chairs.

Back to East Looe Beach, it is soft sand so it will depend very much on your equipment as to whether you can manage the beach or not. There is a ramp onto he sand so it is possible if you have an all terrain chair. There is a beach shower on the promenade which has a step into it, so anyone wheel chair bound is not going to be able to use. There are also clean and well looked after public toilets.

We are at the cafe at the old Life Boat House. The staff were very accommodating. The cafe entrance has quite a deep lip into the door but the staff allowed my husband to use the takeaway entrance to get into the cafe which is step free. There is also outside eating here which is also step free.

To get a reasonably stress free taste of Cornwall with good facilities and traditional Cornish feel, as well as a nice beach, I would thoroughly recommend Looe as a good place to start for those struggling with mobility.‬

‪Not the biggest beach, but a it's never too bust. There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby, although parking is a little walk away from the beach. We've spent hours sat on or near the beach this summer. It always has a nice atmosphere and a bit of life to it.‬

‪A typical Cornish experience with a very good beach area on the East side of the river. Wetsuits and plenty of equipment to hire (paddle board, kayak, boat trips, deck chairs, wetsuits).

Depending on your approach to Looe you enter on the East or West side of the river. Our cottage ((Kingfisher Barn - Sykes Cottages) was near East Taphouse approx 7 miles inland towards Liskeard.

Plenty of crabbing for young children on the quayside and everyone was doing well in the bucket when we were there.

For an excellent meal try the “Old Sail Loft” on Fore Street (East side). Not the cheapest but well worth it.

Plenty of fish&chips and ice cream and cream teas as you would expect.

Fowey - Mevagissey boat trip is a good return trip passing Looe off the coast. Catch it either way and watch for dolphins. For us it was a sighting both ways and the boat slowed for photos.

We also visited the “Lost Gardens of Helagan” near Mevagissey and the “Monkey Sanctuary” close to Looe.

If it rains take a trip to Plymouth where there is plenty to do.‬

‪We visited Looe one evening during our holiday and it was lovely.
As we arrived after 6pm the car parking was free and it was a short walk across the bridge to the beach. We stumbled across The Sandwich bar so ordered some food and then found a bench to sit at over looking the water, it was beautiful!‬
