We walked along the south west coast path and it was a fantastic walk with picture perfect scenery, highly recommended.

We walked along here from just before Carbis bay. The weather during the week we were there wasn't great and it had rained a lot, which meant a lot of the path was rather muddy. There was plenty of section were you could get a great view of St Ives, and Carbis bay. We did cut across onto Porthkidney beach and had a scroll along the beach on the way which was great.

We set off from St Ives to Carbis Bay. While this was a short walk, there were plenty of steep uphill stretches. There are steps and there are some uneven stretches and narrow pathways where we stepped aside to let other walkers go. The sea views of the bay and the coves are amazing and you realise that the path was initially made for coast guards watching and keeping the area safe from smugglers. Therefore, the path is so close to the edge at times but you still feel safe. On the walk you come across different habitats, with greenery, forest, and sand dunes. We stayed for a picnic on the sand dune stretch, but it got suddenly windy and chilly, but still worth it. Not remember coming across more than two benches on the Carbis Bay to Lelant stretch. Keep positive and persevere, the uphill parts are worth the scenery and the walk.

We only did the Carbis Bay to St. Ives section but it is a beautiful walk, taking approx. 25 minutes from near the train station to st ives.

We did this 4.5 mile walk from St ives to near St Michael Church. Good mix of terrain forest and beaches. Alot of up and down steps and can be muddy in patches so bring hiking boots. Train ticket only 2 pounds back

We did this walk many times over the fortnight we were staying in Carbis Bay. We did not do the full walk to Lelant, but walked from Carbis Bay to St Ive’s and visa versa. We had a pushchair and found the walk easy except in a few places. There is a railway bridge you must cross near Carbis Bay station and this meant we had to carry our pushchair up and down the steps. There was also a kissing gate near to where we stayed so we had to lift the pushchair over that. Other that these two obstacles, we found the path to be easy and nice to walk on. The path was mainly flat & graveled. It was a nice walk and we enjoyed using this path.

We went for lunch in Lelant and decided to walk there from St Ives along the coastal path. Despite being a slightly rainy day in October the walk was enjoyable. A bit steep at the start, but had some great views of the coast. We cut down onto Porthkidney beach halfway for a walk on the beach before walking back round to Lelant.

On a very wet day we walked from St Ives to Lelant, its important to check the timetable if getting the train back as some only stop on request. When we got to the station it would have been a 30 min wait for a train, so we took the road opposite up to the village and caught the bus back (£7 for a family of 4)
I will also point out that you cannot get a train at Lelant Saltings anymore.
The path is a mixture of surfaces and gradients, so use suitable footwear for the weather. I agree with some recent reviews that its a bit overgrown in places.
Overall an enjoyable walk any time of year. Lovely views.

Are there any sheer drops/cliffs on the stretch between St Ives and Carbis bay? I don't mind steep hills, but I'm not keen on anything you can fall off! Or should I just give it a miss? Many thanks.

Hi,
As you would expect with the Coast Path some of it is along cliff tops, but on this section whenever you are close to an edge there is either a fence or a bank between you and the drop, so you should be fine.
What distance is the costal path? Just so can allow time x

The walk is about four and a half miles. We stopped in carbis bay for lunch. It does go up and down, and is steep in places. We got the train back to Lelant saltings.

Is the walk equal both ways -- just as good to take train from St Ive to Lelant and then walk back?
How long did it take you to walk one way?
Helenrh2014

Yes equal both ways. I think it took us about 3-4 hours to walk back but we stopped to admire the views many times and didn't rush. The initial path from the station was a little confusing and not really obvious. However once on that its easy to find the way. We stopped to explore the church at Lelant and for coffee at Carbis Bay. The walk was rather muddy in places, one part in particular, but it was February. Well worth doing the walk!!
