The atmosphere is great, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the variety of games is amazing! I wish I had more money to spend there!

A few friends and I visited recently to check out the shop as we all have an interest in board games. We had a wonderful experience, everyone we spoke to was very friendly, talkative, and knowledgeable. There is an area where you can sit and play a library of games for free, which we found to be really helpful as we got to try out some games we'd been looking at for a while. There are also two gaming rooms that looked to be open for hire for RPG games and such.
Overall I had a very enjoyable experience and will definitely be back to buy (and play) some more games!

Sword and Board stands on Heavitree's main street and is one of the best local game stores I have been to for some time.
The owner was incredibly friendly and chatty. There's a big choice of board games, from simple cheap "family" ones, to much more intense ones for the serious games nerd. There's also an extensive library of board games that you can just sit down and play for free. There are four tables in the shop for this purpose, so to be honest a group of friends could spend a whole afternoon there if desired (like we did).
The shop also runs other nerd activities like Dungeons and Dragons and Magic The Gathering. There are lots of stuff on sale for all of that, as well as other gaming-related paraphernalia.
All in all, this is an welcome addition to Exeter's shops and an excellent place to stop off in for a few hours. People like me who are players of a particular game can probably find a more regular weekly/monthly session as well.

My partner has started playing DnD and eventually persuaded me to join. Both relatively new to the experience but have been welcomed by friendly staff and lovely people to join groups of all experiences, including beginners! We always have a nice room at the back of the store which even has a curtain for privacy during games.
They also have a wide variety of board games and role playing games, and someone is always on hand in case help is required. Always great to get into a new hobby, and this is the place to do it! Highly recommend, to beginners and experts alike!

What a brilliant venue. Open and well-lit, friendly and open staff, and excellent gaming tables for all any type. Can’t rdcommejd this place more.

Visited a few times since the shop has been open. I've always found the shop very inviting, with friendly staff and a constantly growing library of stock.
Would definitely recommend any of their beginner sessions or just for a casual drop in and play.

This is a friendly shop with a library of games you can play for free. The selection is good and the prices are comparable with online prices (often cheaper).

Really friendly, nice environment and knowledgeable staff.
