Historical gardens dating back to 1612 and claimed to be the oldest open space in England. Located on the northern side of the Rougemont Castle and overlooking the railway line it has some interesting statues and features and worth a look.

While staying in Exeter recently we walked through the gardens and enjoyed the nature and peacefulness there .
There are also some great statues to see.
The gardens look well maintained
Nice place to get out of the hustle and bustle of Exeter.

The nearest parking spot was only a few yards away in Northernhay Place, but it was for disabled people only. When we arrived, after walking up a steep road, there were two security men at the gates as there was some event going happen later. I found some portal vans selling food, drinks and clothes. Someone was setting up a stage, where the singers would be performing. They also had portable toilets there, which meant this place never has toilets in it. It did have views of Exeter. We went up a path, on our left, and found a history board which was part of the Exeter history trail. There is nothing to do here, unless you bring a picnic to watch an event.

We had a bus ride to Exeter and visited these gardens with the express purpose of completing the 2 geocaching adventure labs here. They are lovely gardens, with lots of interesting statues, a fab war memorial and the gatehouse to Rougemont Castle. Wrll earth depending dome time here if you haven't been before

Northern hay is a lovely park it has to be said. On Pokémon event days it’s a great visit because people from all over will commune to fight in raids etc
Sadly it is a place where the kids who are too old to go to return to college, but still act like they’re in yr9 like to hang about, selling drugs and scamming college goers out of their money. But luckily this tends to be rare, I think it’s calmed down now as the last couple times I’ve been I haven’t been pushed into any bushed, beaten up or chased back into college classrooms.
The castle walk is accessible by going the library way, and it’s nice, just watch out for a stray needles all cities have them so you can’t blame Northernhay gardens!
Genuinely you can meet some nice people and if they remove the fence that stops people going into the castly area it would be nice.
Cheers :)

The potential of this park seems to have been lost by Exeter city authorities. Numerous paths end with a barrier and it’s main function seems to be a short cut for locals moving between the High Street and other parts of the city

It was a chance find when we had to stroll through the gardens to get to our car. Very well kept. Thank you Exeter council. Benches are available. A very good place to rest in hectic Exeter.

Nice park, very quiet, benches where you can sit and just watch the world go by. Entrance path is quite steep but the park itself is on the flat.

The has the potential to be a lovely place but it was very run down. There was graffiti and broken glass in places. The gardens were well laid out and the planting was pleasant, it just didn't feel like a place to linger.

If you go to Exeter.gov.uk under Parks & Allotments bylaws it says dogs are allowed as long as they are kept under strict control which presumably means on a lead. You would be expected to pick up any droppings as well.
