It's steep just like the Hovis advert seems a bit neglected but maybe that was down to the dismal day. Pay a visit to the local Gold Hill museum it's free a lovely town to walk around try The Ship inn for a drink.

Visited on a Sunday which might explain the cars parked outside the houses on Gold Hill. I didn’t quite get the photos I was hoping for.
It was a part sunny/cloudy day and, whilst I definitely didn’t get great pictures, I can imagine a sunnier day would have made all the difference.
The surrounding countryside is absolutely stunning and you get good views from the streets along the top of the hill. There is a nice park with a double slide, a promenade with great views, and a pub called Ye Olde Two Brewers which did a great Sunday roast (small for £9 was large enough for me!) - all on the circuit down Gold Hill and back up through the park.

This was part of a 2 mile “Walks in Dorset” and didn’t disappoint.
Just off Shaftsbury high street the view down the street and across the Dorset countryside is stunning. Well worth a visit and fun to walk down (5 mins max). You can then turn right and walk through the lower town and back up through the park.
Most people know this location because of the Hovis TV add from 1973. Unsurprisingly there is a large Hovis loaf at the top now to mark the occasion. Ricky Scott, who directed the advertisement, went on to films Alien and Bladerunner which contained no Hovis.

Picture perfect and iconic, this has been on my list for some time. It did not disappoint and was our main reason for visiting this lovely old town. You need not climb up to it or even down it as the best views are from the top and this is very easily accessed from the high street.

Always wanted to go here since seeing the Hovis advert years ago ,and having our staycation was just the time to do it.It’s so lovely just as shown on the advert .We walked down and up ,didn’t think we would manage it but we did with a couple of stops on the way up we’re in our ‘70s so wasn’t too bad at all.there’s a nice cafe at the top so you can sit outside and enjoy the view ,it’s easy to find just off the Main Street down a little alleyway and it’s there ,great photo opportunities,so pretty ,definitely recommend a visit here

A stunning area to visit that was famously known for the Hovis advert years ago, that I always thought was filmed in Yorkshire!
A very steep hill & area to walk down that is so picturesque, or if you prefer stay up the top and just admire the view, read all about the Hovis advert, go into the nearby museum, or simply have a sit down in the salt cellar cafe with a beverage of your choice, with maybe something to eat & just watch the world go by, paradise.

An iconic scene and a reason why we visited Shaftesbury. You can just imagine the Hovis advert and the young lad pushing the bike .

An iconic view for Brits of a certain age, but its an extremely pretty street even if you know nothing about 1970s/1980s British tv adverts!
Worth a visit, the town car park is less than a 5 minute walk away.

Gold Hill is a really lovely place and when you look down it you can still see the young lad with his bike coming up the hill to deliver the bread.

To be fair the only reason we visited Shaftesbury was simply to see the famous gold hill..at first glance it doesn’t disappoint it’s an iconic historical place made more famous by the Hovis advert..but it’s a must see place, Shaftesbury itself is a lovely
