What a beauty of a church and set on the village green rather than a road makes it seem that much more magical. This church needs CofE to put some serious money its way though - ongoing works desperately needed which is sad to see when this is such a beauty of the CofE's . Well worth a visit and a donation.

Well worth studying the windows in this church and it appeared to be a thriving part of the community.

Love an old church building which is open throughout the day for wandering visitors to poke their nose into. A stunning place to enjoy - beautiful stained glass windows in there with lots of detail.

Very pretty church and graveyard in a beautiful setting. Went to visit where my parents were married and my father's ashes were buried.

Cette église vaut vraiment le détour, tout comme le village (rue principale) d'Alfriston.

This 4th century church is known as the Cathedral of the South Downs. It is a large cruciform building with bell ropes hanging in the very centre of the cross shape as the 6 bells are in the tower right in the centre, not in a more usual shaped belfry. The oldest bell dates from 1390. Interesting to visit

We are pleased you enjoyed your visit. I should just point out the church is 14th century and not 4th. (probably a typing error but I don't want other visitors expecting something they aren't going to see).
You are correct that it is not common to see bells rung in the centre of the church; there are less than 70 in the whole of the UK.

Die St Andrew's Church mit seinem rundumgelegenen alten Friedhof nimmt einen auf angenehme Weise gefangen. Man vergisst die Zeit und findet sich in einer historischen Landkarte wieder. Vor allem die Namen und Geburts- und Sterbedaten auf den archaischen Grabsteinen zeigen uns eindrucksvoll und voller Demut, wie vergänglich unser Leben ist.

As you approach this church you can see the pride in the neat surroundings, Great stained greet you as you enter the church. Please sit on the wooden pews and admire the light streaming through the windows. As you enter the church there is a lamented history that you can use as you walk round. Please note what is in the middle that is not found in many churches.

One can imagine walking to church on a sunday.the setting is idyllic. A very protestant interior with some excellent stained glass.
