Stopped here for lunch while walking the South Downs Way. We were warmly greeted and given a table by the fire. Beer and food were ordered at the table, the atmosphere was very good as was the food and beer. A good find

Having had a few days to digest our experience at the Smugglers. We booked up for a Friday night stay. Check in after 3. Okay.
The room was big enough with an on-suite bathroom. Very average. Pub is atmospheric however.
Money paid upfront on arrival £135.
Informed that breakfast is a continental type. Nothing cooked.
No WiFi code included in the room info sheet. App it's written above the bar downstairs.
Breakfast available between 8-9am gives a small window of opportunity for what didn't look too inviting anyway.
We went to the Café opposite for something hot after telling staff we might be late for the 11am check out time. Ok, he said.
At 11.20am we returned to the room just as my partners overnight bag was chucked out of our room into the hall, literally. The older lady doing this was most rude and furious. The man, the same one we had spoken to earlier, looked so embarrassed. Luckily, we had no breakables with us and had packed all ready to leave. We couldn't get out o fast enough. Obviously, Ye old Smugglers Inn is run to the convenience of the owners and not the guests.

Went to the Smugglers Inn with a colleage, Had a great lunch there as usual. Barry behind the bar was as helpful as ever. Keep up the good work.

Twin room was smaller than a caravan. Beds uncomfortable. Towels hard. O mirror in bedroom. Bathroom ridiculously small. Breakfast pre packaged Aldi fayre. Very very disappointing
Evening meal was however very good & staff were friendly

Warm and inviting welcome. Cosy inside with log fire and twinkly lights. We had home made fish pie and sausages and mash. Extremely large portions and delicious. Vegan and veg options also available. Very friendly and efficient staff. We will definitely return.

It was right in the heart of Alfriston....staff helpful...
We stayed in the Slanting Room...which was pleasant but the au suite facility was awful...it was like having a wash on a postage stamp...very unhygienic...more or less having to use the toilet as a seat to use the tiny wash basin ....plus this facility was down a short corridor .so not connected to the room at all...
I would not recommend this hotel...

What can I say? World of Alfriston "to-a-tee"! Situated in what seems like the heart of the village, what in my imagination could be THE "place to meet" for locals for banter, catching up and plain relaxing. The staff were lovely and the food was gorgeous!! I would definitely describe it as quirky, and ALMOST as staying as an "unexpected guest" at someone's house but being pleasantly surprised by the lush accommodation provided!

A charming, cosy, relaxed, friendly Inn with an even more charming hostess. The perfect place for recovering from a long ride along the South Downs Way with my buddies. Good company, excellent home-cooked food with quality ale and wine, followed by a good night's sleep and hearty breakfast. What more could one ask for!

We was camping down the road and fancied a treat. Called up and they accommodated 7 of us at short notice and reserved us a table so we could be together. Food was excellent I had steak pie that was homemade and huge. All the food was excellent and really generous. We are all big eaters and left full to bursting. We can’t wait to pop back again to this full of character proper pub with a warm welcome and friendly staff. Thank you

What a fabulous pub, stopped by on a cold Saturday and spent a couple of hours by the fire.
Exploring the pub on the way to the Loos was interesting, I loved the little snug and cosy corners.
Very friendly hosts and the food was great and reasonably priced.
We had the baked camembert sharing platter which was huge.
If you like cider, try the Seacider, I'm hooked.
Lots of great local ales on offer.
