As only return tickets (£4.20 adults, £2.60 children) are available we visited both the East and West railways twice! The walk up the cliff tops is not too arduous so for each railway we got the railway to the top, did some exploring, walked back down to the seafront, then later in the day walked back up the cliff and got the railway back down.
Whilst we visited in the height of summer, there was never much wait to go up the cliff and never any wait to come back down.
We used the West Hill railway to visit Hastings Castle and the East Hill railway to visit the county park – both cliff tops provide some excellent scenic views.

Enjoyed using the West Cliff Railway to see Smugglers Cove and the great views.
Still think it's slightly expensive but worth the visit.
Just remember that it is shut half hour for lunch.

A great attraction for all of us. Children 9 & 7 and they both really enjoyed it.
Worth a visit for sure. This cost the railway wasn’t working. Not sure if that permanent. Hopefully just temporary as a real feature of the old town

One more tick on my bucket list. First saw it when I came to UK in 2003 and always wanted to go up it. Made it up on 17 August 2022. Celebrating my 21st wedding anniversary. £5.20 for two seniors...made our day.

Lovely little lift up to the top of the cliff - the West Hill lift takes you up the cliff via a tunnel to the castle and the caves with lovely victorian wooden coaches with incredible views over the beach and the old town. The East Hill lift takes you up to Hastings Country Park which has spectacular views over the Old Town and Rock-a-Nore. Both the lifts are a tad pricey for a very short ride but are both a great way to see incredible views of Hastings!

Such a great way to get to the top of the cliff!
Really enjoyable ride up and down if a little scary at first! Definitely worth a visit.

One of the funicular railways was closed for maintenance the day we visited (why does this need to be done in July which is peak season?). Went on the other one. Ok but airless carriages on a hot day closed up and waiting to run was not my idea of fun.

Worth catching the lift to get to the top of the East Hill to see the Old Town and the Beach.
The Country Park at the top is nothing special but the views are worth the ticket price.

Visited Hastings recently, and decided to take a trip up on the railway. The station staff were very friendly, and a return ticket is fairly cheap. One thing I'd say is to check when the station and attractions at the top close, because it's earlier than you think! Still, a good experience overall, and well worth the visit!

When we visited, the East hill railway was closed. We took a ride in the West hill railway. Great friendly staff and a lovely nostalgic ride. Shame it’s mostly in a tunnel but takes you to a lovely park with great views.
