Saw the Mary Rose being raised when I was a youngster and wasn't that impressed by a load of muddy old bits of wood so wasn't expecting much when visiting with friends. How wrong I was, museum was amazing, best I have been to. Found my time there absolutely fascinating. The time and attention taken to preserve everything is incredible.
Cannot rate it highly enough, we were there hours without realising, all the guides were informative and friendly and exhibits displayed well. Tickets valid for a year so will be going back as still so much more to see.

Absolutely fantastic day we'll worth a visit. Be careful when buying tickets I hot a single attraction not realising that each ship and museum counted as an attraction. Buy the full ticket as you can spend all day wondering round the historic dockyards . The mary rose was an awesome experience and there are guides everywhere to answer questions. I will go back as we want to go on board the Warrior. A truly fantastic day spent here.

We attended the VIP tour on Saturday 21st Jan 2023. What a wonderful experience. Got up close and personal with the over 450 year old majestic ship in the ship hall and a breath away from her beautiful timbers. Hannah the curator was extremely knowledgeable and helpful whilst showing us the rare access to the ship and unseen artifacts. Bob (also very knowledgable) and dressed as the ships admiral, took us through the museum on a guided tour. Room for improvement? Just small things that we mentioned to them and will address......water, teapots and comfortable shoes. Thanks. Would recommend.

Wow! Just Wow! Okay, so my wife and I visited the Mary Rose almost 20 years ago with our 3 young daughters and saw the hull being sprayed to keep it preserved. We knew the history and the story of how it was discovered and eventually raised and brought to the museum, but didn't realise the significance, nor the effort, the bravery and expertise which it took to raise the Mary Rose from the seabed to keeping it safe and preserved for generations to come.
We returned at the weekend (minus our now adult children) to have another look and what a difference. What a haunting, yet amazing experience. The architects of the museum and layout are to be commended. Entering on the middle level, provides an excellent overview of the hull that was raised with some of the artifacts that were recovered. It whets the appetite for what was to come.
The route takes you down to the ground level (or bottom of the hull) where you are met with hundreds of the artefacts which were recovered. From items of clothing, to tools use aboard the ship, to working parts, cannons, the cannon balls, the list is endless.
Add to the above, the volunteers who were on hand to answer our questions, provide information with such passion and knowledge. They were so approachable which only served to enhance our enjoyment.
Then from the ground floor of the exhibition, take the lift (or the stairs) to the top. Go through the airlocks and you are with the Mary Rose and the smells of the wood. It adds to the enjoyment.
It is (for me) by far and away the best museum/exhibition I have been to for many a year. Yes, take children, but I didn't realise the true history until my wife and I returned this weekend and were able to take in and digest all the information.
We will return

Another great visit with a small group and a guide. As ever, there was something new to see, this time at the entrance to the museum. Great 3D displays.

Such a fascinating place to visit with excellent exhibitions that really bring the history of the ship to life. They have some wonderful and informative volunteers as well that really help to maximise the experience. Looking forward to visiting again.

Hi. Am I correct in thinking that the Mary Rose is no longer included in the annual dock yard ticket? I want to come with a friend and her family over the Easter holiday, so please can you tell me the cost of an annual child ticket and annual adult ticket for the dock yard, plus the cost for the Mary Rose if no longer included. Thank you.

The Mary Rose ticket office is just 2 minutes walk from the Park & Ride stop, bus station and harbour train station. At the ticket office ask for 'the buggy'. A free shuttle service to/from the museum. Wheelchairs and light--weight stools are available for visitors. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible.
Also, the museum is kept low lit to protect the artefacts and to create a stunning atmosphere. However, the morning of the fourth Friday of each month the lights are raised to engage with visitors with visual impairment and those with physical and medical conditions.
How much to see the Mary Rose

Is there a separate entrance to the Mary Rose exhibition or do you have to go through via The Historic Dockyard entrance?
Thanks in advance

The Mary Rose Experience is at the right hand side of the Dockyard entrance, it is a charity so you can gift aid and also, the tickets are valid for one year. You can then purchase any other tickets from the ticket office on the other side. These are usually day tickets, so if you have several days, you can come back to the Mary Rose several times.

If we only have one day - how long should we allow for our visit so that we at least get to do the tours of The Victory and Mary Rose? What are the "must sees"
Heather F
Kirkintilloch, UK26 مساهمة
Hi Sandra to be able to see everything I would allow a minimum of 4-5 hours minimum. Otherwise you won’t be able to see everything on display. I hope you enjoy your visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. I will be back down to Portsmouth and will be revisiting the Dockyard as there was so much I missed in February.

How much time would be appropriate to set aside for a visit to the Mary Rose Museum and historic dockyard?
Hayley D
Dorchester, UK48 مساهمة
I would set aside about 1.5 to 2 hours for the Mary Rose Museum alone...I don’t think the other places in the dockyard would take as long to go round though. For example my partner & I spent about 30-45 minutes exploring the HMS Victory ship.
