‪I absolutely adored every moment of my stay from beginning to end. Witnessing the illuminated ship was breathtaking and incredibly emotional. The 3D experience was definitely a highlight worth seeing. The museum's layout was excellent and the exhibits were fascinating. I'm thrilled we finally had the chance to visit! And Tony, our guide, was absolutely outstanding.‬

‪The Mary Rose was fantastic, well worth seeing but if you are coming by car, beware!!

Google maps plots a route to the Mary Rose that sends you though the Navy military area. You can't go in there. The guard won't let you in.

If you re-route, you will go around in a very long loop through a bumper-to-bumper, slow-moving queue, and ... back to the same place again, where you are not allowed in. Try driving far away to the other side of the city and approach from the opposite direction, and bam! You are back in the loop again.

Don't do what I did and use a Satnav to get stuck going round and round a maddening loop for two hours.

The correct answer is to go to any of these nearby public carparks:

* The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard car park PO1 3GW

* Wickham Street car park PO1 3EF

* The Harbour car park PO1 3EQ

I ditched the SatNav and parked in the Gunwharf Quays parking centre, which has a huge amount of bays, even on a Bank holiday Sunday, and it's only a ten-minute walk away from the Mary Rose and the other museums.

There is still a massive, slow queue to get into the carpark, about 20 minutes crawling along (this was peak time on a Bank Holiday though), but then you are in.

It's one of those parking garages with little lights at each bay so you can easily see where a free bay is (green light) or occupied bays (red lights).

TLDR: Do NOT try to drive to the Mary Rose museum. It's not possible.‬

‪Visited on the 4th of May as a couple. This museum is simply fantastic definitely worth the travel for so many reasons! First of all, the exhibition is wonderful. It perfectly immerses the visitor into the lives of the men that lost their lives that day, as well as giving you a full experience of tudor life at that time. It's extremely emotional and awe inspiring.

What else that's inspiring about it is the staff! It is so clear that every one of those people have a true passion for the place they work at. We had lovely conversations with a few volunteers, and especially one young staff member called Teigan. She gave us loads of information as we were on the upper deck, before the 3D dive cinema. Her knowledge of the ship and Tudor life is remarkable! It's so great to see young people so in love with history. Tegan was very kind and we are very inspired by her true passion for the Mary Rose. We wish her all the luck for her degree.

As for the rest of the museum, please visit, despite the price! It is so incredibly worth it, and I can assure you all that the staff and exhibition will make the visit the best you've had in a while... It's laid out so well, so that you have a mirror image, and can clearly see thousands of objects that are very well preserved. It's beautiful, interesting, fun, and emotional all in one go.

Do it at least once in your life, you won't regret it.

Thank you Mary Rose team for giving us a wonderful bank holiday weekend! We have the all inclusive ticket so will be back again.‬

‪This is worth the train ride from London. I did a guided tour with Tony. He knew everything I could ever think to ask. You’ll learn so much and be amazed at how the ship has been preserved.‬

‪Presentation and history, as well as the background to the building and unfortunate capsize and sinking of the "Mary Rose" is undoubtably a story well told. Unfortunately the overcrowding of the gallery leading into the foyer, prior to viewing the rescued C16th vessel, was so poorly managed that we were not able to view the Video screen detailling the need for the"Mary Rose", or the rapid building of a series of more modern C16th coastal fortifications, than had existed at that time.
Sadly to say that it became a bit of a bun fight to view the stricken ship, and we were really pleased to leave. Very disappointing management of what is a national treasure.‬

‪When I bought the tickets initially I thought they were quite expensive for one attraction but this is one of the most enthralling and beautifully presented museums and overall experiences that I have been to. The displays supporting the actual remains of the wreck are superbly displayed to really tell the story of the Mary Rose herself and the men who sailed on her. You get a real feeling for life as it was then, the trades and skills needed to keep a ship like this afloat. We spent over three hours inside and could have stayed longer. I can’t recommend highly enough and a really fitting memorial to all those who perished when she went down.‬

‪Visited on Friday 09th February 2024. We bought the ultimate ticket which gives you access to every attraction on site, but you could get either the 3 or 1 attraction ticket as well. The Mary Rose Museum is located at the far end of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and on this visit we were focused on this attraction. Be aware it's difficult to visit all the attractions and do them justice in one visit. Set over multiple floors the display was amazing, especially the projections onto the ship decks to illustrate in an audio and visual way how those on the ship may have lived. There is an excellent film at the start detailing the ship's history and sections detailing how the ship was raised. There is a shop and cafe which we didn't visit. There was a lift access to each level. My only complaint was the size of the labels on each encased recovered artefact and some slightly confusing numbering system on them as well.‬
