This was my husband's old haunt back in the late 80's as we lived in Portsmouth then.
We just happened to be passing and he said " let's pop in"
We ordered a medium house Red and house white only to be told we haven't got any red. Then oh yes we've got a bit left!!
Had a medium glass each only to be asked for £13.50 for 2 glasses of house medium wine. God knows how long the wine had been sitting there!!!
We did question the price but the young lady who was working said I'm sorry it is correct I only work here. (Not her fault).
We have run pubs please make it accessible to not only beer or larger drinkers but wine drinkers to.
Why charge such an extortionate price for your wine when you've probably only paid £5 or less for a bottle!!!!
I know it's a real ale pub but surely you should accommodate both.
I hate TripAdvisor after having a pub ourselves and rarely put one on as I know there are people that live by it but just had to on this occasion

Since the new management have taken over the pub is friendly, doing more range of drinks, music Fridays & Saturdays also bouncers on the doors which makes it feel safer after previous trouble with old management. Just a friendly atmosphere as soon as you walked into the pub. Children and dogs welcomed into the pub aswell

My favourite part of the experience was Alex the barman! He was funny, charming and pretty much always dancing ha! On top of that after our 6 person order the first time he served us, I was greeted to a 'same again?' from him, when even I couldn't remember what the 6 of us had! Exactly who you want behind the bar, someone with a smile on their face! Hard to come by down North End these days!
We were aware the pub was under new management and as soon as we walked in we could tell the vibe of the pub was back to its best, like the good old days! Les and the team have done a fantastic job!
On top of that, they had a fantastic band in there that night, an old school family group who rocked the place out, best night we've had out in years!

Over the years we have spent many happy hours in The Tap. We went for a pre-dinner drink at 5 pm on Friday. The music was too loud, and there were no real ales. I was forced to drink lager, a poor second. The girl behind the bar was pleasant enough. A pair of "gentlemen" started a loud . hectic pool game. I did not know there could be so many "F" words in each sentence. I shall make no comment on the other clientele, but I do not think they drink their tea from china cups with their little pinky fingers pointed out. Sadly, we will never return. Dear Ken, an earlier landlord will be turning in his grave.

Stopped doing Sunday lunches but they are starting again in winter best Sunday lunch in north end cant wait

David the new land lord has turned this pub around and a great land lord have some great banter. New beer prices now so on par with weatherspoons on selected drinks. Highly recommend.

Great venue... can get a little warm when packed during a bands performance. Reasonably priced drinks and a good place to be sociable

I am afraid to say my friend and I were disappointed.....the nite started at 7 and there was only 1 bar person.....so getting served was slow. When the show started the bar person switched the dishwasher on....so it was a little difficult to hear....... The curry was just about eatable.....but watery and the portions were small........I queried with the waiter and said I wasn't impressed......someone came out later and said I should have sent it back......but that wouldn't have stopped it being a cost cutting meal ... Would nt recommend it

Looked on their website to find information about when they serve food, it said until 9pm on a sat, went in and was told they stop at 6. This is the second time I’ve visited The Tap and the second time I’ve been disappointed, new management or not.

We just went for a drink - 4 adults and a child aged 2. The girl behind the bar was so friendly and welcoming, she made our first visit a lovely experience. She played with our little boy and even offered to put a children's program on the tv as no - one else was in the pub. The drinks tasted good and were very reasonable. An all round enjoyable first visit. I would definitely recommend this pub!
