We did the walk from Sizergh Castle and would really recommend it. We had no idea that at the end of the walk there would be such a pretty and peaceful Church so were delighted when we got there.

This lovely church can be reached by car but can also be included on a walk from sizergh castle. Not a level walk but certainly worth the view when you reach the church.

A great spot for views across the valley. Also worth a look in the church which is very interesting. From this viewpoint there is an easy marked walk to Sizergh and back. Around 25 mins each way.

We've visited this many times. Park up at Sizergh Castle National Trust and walk about a mile, or you could drive directly and park but there are a lot of narrow lanes round here.
Walking up from Sizergh you climb up past a farm along a gravel road and are hit by the view across the Lake District, the wide and flat Lyth Valley and River Kent with Arnside's long bridge and Morecambe Bay.
The church is in a prime spot for the view and is very small, like an Anglo-Saxon church with simple markings on the walls.
If you carry on along the gravel road you come to a road which descends very steeply into the valley where the lanes are as wide as a tractor and in spring the sweet wild garlic scent fills the air. You pass through a couple of villages that are on the steep side of the valley and the garlic wood that also contains Roe Deer. You then turn right through sheep fields back to Sizergh. The walk is about 3 miles.
It's a good place for a moderate walk and very quiet.

Visited Helsington Church for a sad occasion but the view from there was uplifting and heartening. Roads to the viewpoint are narrow and bendy!

Crystal clear cold frosty day, to do one of my favourite walks. Parked as Helsington church and then walked the several miles to the viewing point on top of Scout Scar. It is a walk along a limestone escarpment with a vertical cliff face giving awesome views over the lythe valley and panoramic views of the snow-capped lakes mountains.
