Saw ‘How Not To Drown’ last night. Gripping, brilliant cast and set. Can understand why it got such good reviews, great to see productions like this in Keswick.

Booked a meal here on 23rd Dec pre-theatre as a festive treat. Rather disappointed. Limited menu. Mac and cheese bland without any taste of cheese although the added extra cauliflower was to be fair delicious. Beef cobbler served without any potato side. Three choices of desert including a brownie which I didn’t want so I ordered a sundae sold as strawberry chocolate and honeycomb with flake. Arrived with strawberry and vanilla no chocolate no flake but with a brownie ‘because they thought I’d prefer it’! Staff polite but didn’t really understand that dishes should arrive as ordered. Swapped it for the only other choice an apple crumble which again arrived with a different accompaniment to what was in the menu. It felt rather that the chef was winding down for Christmas had not ordered sufficient ingredients (we over heard a table who arrived after us at 5.30 being told they had run out if one main dish)!and didn’t care that much. Poor, especially for a festive treat for my parents.

I’ve said before that Keswick and the surrounding area is so fortunate to have access to a local theatre of such quality.
It was also good to see a full house despite the icy cold weather and the threat of snow.
This years Christmas production was “The Borrowers” and we were so glad we had booked to see it. There is an extremely talented and versatile cast who clearly enjoyed performing in front of such an appreciative audience. If there was any criticism, it was that the first half seemed a little slow initially but as the performance progressed, matters livened up and the second half contained some magical moments.
Of course any performance isn’t just about the cast and the sets and lighting deserve a mention. The theatre does rely on volunteers who seem to do a sterling job and without whom, then theatre wouldn’t function.
This is a wonderful community resource and will hopefully continue to prosper for many years to come.

Whilst the performance was enjoyable the theatre itself was very cold in the second half.
Be aware that the bar area does not show prices for food and drinks

Our second visit to this beautiful establishment, which must have one of the best settings of any theatre.
We saw "The beauty queen of Leenane" a powerful and increasingly dark drama, which was very impressive.
My only quibble is with the parking which is £1 if you pay after 7pm but likely to be around £6 if you have to park before then.

Saw the play Brief Encounter on this trip to Keswick. The theatre is nice and I like the theater in the round, with the audience on on all sides of the stage. While the cast was talented the play itself had a very thin plot. There was a bar to buy drinks before the play and during intermission.

I’ve seen a lot of theater over the years in New York and London, and nowhere have I seen a better show than the production of BRIEF ENCOUNTER currently playing. I was happily shocked and will always remember an evening of exquisite acting, superb music, and careful directing. Go!

We enjoyed a visit to this lovely theatre by the lake in Keswick. We went to see Brief Encounter. It was impressive how the cast managed to bring the story to life with a few props, bits of stage furniture and lighting, especially as it was theatre in the round. All the cast were good, especially the male lead and they could all sing and play musical instruments and do comedy as well as heartache drama. We enjoyed it but felt that somehow there was just an element missing. As the man to my left said to me, perhaps it is a story better suited to film rather than the stage.

Easy to find, parking next to the theatre. We were there to watch One Man Two Guvnors . No probs at all, staff were great, seats comfy, play brilliant. I would say that booking in line is probably best.

Absolutely fantastic night out at a wonderful theatre. Cheap parking nearby (if you arrive just after 7pm). Wonderfully talented cast delivering a performance to remember. Leave all your cares and woes behind and go and see this genuinely hilarious play. The volunteers at the theatre were friendly and helpful and there’s a wide selection of drinks to enjoy. Don’t miss it!

Hi...apologies for delay in responding. I think all seats have good views of the stage - the theatre is quite small, cozy almost and designed very well. Very worth a visit - not to mention it's setting close to the shore of Derwentwater and Keswick town... A

Thinking of coming to Cumbria, which play in October and November can anyone recommend please ? I’ve seen quite a few plays here already: 39 steps and Seeing the Lights have been my favourite, is there anything similar playing at the moment ? Many thanks...

Nothing on is quite along those lines. But I’d avoid Rails as it’s rather harrowing and recommend the Alan bennet play that’s currently on.

Hi, our website has full details of those shows via our handy calendar, it details which shows are on both those days. You can choose the performances you're interested on and it routes you to find out more about each show. The answer is that we have After the Dance by Terence Rattigan in the Main House and Remarkable Invisible by Laura Eason in the Studio. Both shows are TBTL productions and there is one matinee of our Studio show on the 24th. Details of both shows and what they're about can be found online, where you can also book. I'm not allowed to post the address of the website but if you don't want to do this online you can call our Box Office on 017687 74411 and they'll be happy to give you more information and take your booking.

Hello,
The theatre announced at last year's festival that they were programming five days of Jazz events from Wed 10 May until Sun 14 May in the absence of anyone coming forward to run the festival in the future.
But after that announcement an independent organiser came forward to run the festival also on 11-14 May so there are other events programmed at other venues. You can find information about our events on Theatre by the Lake's website on those dates, or the website for the new festival is Keswick Jazz and Blues Festival.

Hello, There are no shows at the moment at the theatre. It is our annual dark period where we undertaken essential maintenance.
Shows start again from Sat 4 February with The Lancashire Hotpots. Our website details everything on the calendar.
The car park petition worked to a degree and we had some concessions on the proposed price hikes. Parking after 7pm is now chargable at £1. You can find full parking details on the 'location' part of our website.

Hello Terence,
We have four shows on during that timeframe.
If you want to have a look at all relevant shows - then go to our website and click 'whats on' and then you can search by date range and it will show you all events that are on during that period.
The calendar - if you put your mouse over it will tell you exactly which days each show is on and at what time.
Public booking opens today so you can book your tickets straightaway if you find something you like the look of.
