‪We literally went here to view the grave of Richard the 3rd.
A beautiful cathedral with some stunning stained glass windows, just lovely and peaceful.‬

‪We visited the Cathedral some years ago, and only decided to pop in en-route to the Guildhall, as our daughter had never been in. We were SO pleased we did. I'd forgotten how much there is to see, and a lot of work has been done since then too. Intricately carved stone memorials and oak screens, incredible variety of stained glass windows, (including the glorious new ones only recently on full-display), and Richard III's tomb. We were lucky enough to have a lovely volunteer Guide on duty who was a joy to listen to, and I would definitely book onto one of the scheduled tours on our next visit. Restoration work is ongoing and it was fascinating to watch two very talented chippies restoring some of the woodwork.
Thoroughly enjoyed spending a couple of hours here, admiring the skill shown by craftsmen over the years, taking in the history, and the happy balance this place has found between modern and historical, tourist attraction and place of worship.‬

‪What a fabulous tour! Only £3.50 and I would have paid more! We learnt so much about the cathedrals links to Richard 3, saw and learnt the symbolism of the two beautiful new windows which weave together the story of his life, Leicester and the gospel story. We learnt all about his beautiful tomb and visited his museum round the corner and saw his embroidered pall and learnt who the figures represented and all the artists involved‬

‪A bit like the Tardis - Leicester cathedral is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.
It’s been a cathedral for less than a century but a church for some 9 centuries.
It has only been open since restoration for a few short weeks. There is something special is seeing videos of the laying of new limestone floor slabs, refreshing wall art and making good worn out masonry and then taking a few short steps to see the final outcome “in the flesh”.
The welcomer as you step through the wooden door was friendly and helpful. The words of an ongoing service in the Chapel of Christ the King drifted out across the whole cathedral like incense.
The cathedral is in the middle of a major restoration , now focusing on a new visitor centre.
The friendliness of the welcome desk was matched by the volunteers eager to tell their story of awaiting the reopening of their cathedral. One shared her relief at being reacquainted with St George’s chapel and loving the changes “now everything was back in its place” - today was her first day back after the two year pause.
Overall a quiet, thought provoking and restful place - fitting for a royal resident no longer in need for a horse in exchange for his kingdom.‬

‪Visited Leicester Cathedral when we were in town, but the cathedral was closed for retrofitting works. Admired from the outside, it is a majestic building. Understand that it will be closed until the end of 2023 but do check the exact dates if you intend to enter the cathedral.‬

‪Great place to visit. We were staying in Market Harborough for Valentines. We decided to get on the local bus for a trip out to Leicester. A great town for shopping, we bought lots. ‬

‪Booked a tour of the cathedral which is currently closed until late 2023 for substantial renovations. The tour was a walk around the surrounding area of the cathedral, visiting the Guildhall, Castle Gardens and St Mary de Castro Church.
Fascinating tour, Berni, our tour guide, was full of knowledge; we learned so much about the history of Leicester. The tour takes about 1hr + It was a great introduction to Leicester.‬

‪We were staying in the adjacent street and had good views of the building but it is currently shrouded in scaffolding and undergoing major works. We will be sure to visit when we are back in the city.‬

‪Lovely small cathedral, the final resting place of King Richard III- the reason we visited.
We chose to see the cathedral to round off our day and pay our respects after visiting The King Richard III Visitor Centre, a short walk away.‬

‪As i've said in other reviews, i'm not a religious person. So it is always awkward to step into religious buildings. But this was worth the trip. It's not the most impressive of Cathedrals. And i'd have happily just passed it by and admired it from the outside. But having just visited the Richard III centre across the road, I learned that this is the final resting place of King Richard III. So naturally, it felt like the perfect place to follow up a visit to the centre. It was very nice inside but lets face it, I was there to see a royal tomb. And it did not disappoint. ‬
