Think it is great that you can walk in and have a look round fee of charge, what a amazing building, there are tours if you wish to do them, STUNNING.

Lincoln is certainly one of the most impressive cathedrals in England. It's up there with Durham and Canterbury for sure.
It is certainly worth being on one of the free tours of the ground floor of the cathedral. I also elected the roof tour, which is at an extra cost, but very interesting.. You need to be prepared for 100 or so steps up narrow and winding staircases ( and of course, 100 or so back down) and to have a head for heights.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Lincoln Cathedral and Kenneth our tour guide brought the whole experience alive with interesting historical facts and witty insights. Go on a tour if you have the time as well worth it :)

Enjoyed our walk around Lincoln Cathedral. Steeped in history and has endured many partial rebuilds and restorations. Worth a visit.

Great for a day out, take the floor tour as you'll be educated & entertained by one of the quality guides who can show you more than you'd ever see without their help

Its £9 to visit the cathedral, many may object to paying anything. Its quite spacious and exhibits to be viewed.
Coming home and viewing the literature I picked up, I feel its always best to read things a few times. Then you realise is this a scam, or an oversight by the people who work there.
You can pay for your name to be signed or caved into new stonework and this will be viewed by many people in the future. (Read it again). It then states at the bottom the carvings will be on the internal part of the stone and not on view.
So please tell us who will actually see these carvings of names who have supported you, since unless you remove that stonework, NOBODY will see it?

One of the best cathedrals I have visited, and I have seen a few!
We spent a fascinating afternoon here, soaking up history, architecture and calm. Every corner turned leads to more treasures to be seen.

This is the place if you're into Gothic architecture. I would definitely recommend a roof tour as well, if you're able to climb stairs and not prone to a fear of heights. Gordon, our guide, showed us all kinds of interesting features you'd otherwise not notice.

Took the guided floor walk with Kenneth and the guided wall walk with John. Great experience. Both were very knowledgeable and great guides. Kenneth was particularly witty. I waited a couple days to do this review because I knew I was headed to York and would also see York Minster. Of the two, I think Lincoln while slightly smaller was the better visit. It has much more interesting history, also York Minster does not offer guided tours. The guides made a big difference for me.

The cathedral is worth visiting, Especially the roof tour. We had a wonderful guide who took us to many areas that gave us a different perspective. We did the 11 am tour and went out on a balcony to hear the noon bells ring! Very special!

There are several services a day, best of which is evensong at 5.30 and Sung Eucharist at 9.30 0n Sunday Morning. Vergers or guides will direct you to clergy. This is thought by many to be one of the finest medieval cathedrals in Europe. See wikipedia for weighty testimonials.
I have mobility problems
I can walk with a walking stick tho ... are they any lifts rather than using stairs ?

Unfortunately we do not have lifts in the cathedral but there are ramps at all elevation points on the ground floor. We also have wheelchairs on hand if you decide that you would prefer not to walk.

Vandalism by parliamentarian iconoclasts during the English civil war. They stabled the horses in the Cathedral.

In this area, there is plenty to do so you could plan for the majority of the day. There is the cathedral, the castle and the local streets/shops of interest. There are car parks nearby so you don't have to climb the steep hill.

Can anyone advise on access ? Is the cathedral close to any parking and is it on steep hill as visiting with elder parent

The Cathedral is at the top of Steep Hill. I am unsure about parking as we walked in, but I do know there is a shuttle bus that takes you up and down steep hill, so that may be an option for you.
