Visted during the daytime and the evening. By day it was fairly quiet, easy to move around, plenty space in the local pubs etc. We went to rubber soul - £2.50 a pint Mon -Thurs so really cannot complain about it being expensive. By evening it becomes very busy, music belting out from every pub, some live music, some general music played by the pub. Can imagine this area would be a nightmare with stag, hen parties and the likes. Very much a tourist trap. Whilst original cavarn club was torn down years ago it was good to see the area that was the hub for many an iconic band. If you're not too keen on large crowns then go by day and take on some of the atmosphere.

This should be Liverpool's equivalent of Stockholm's Gamla Stan (old town) but instead has all the charm of a back alley of a kebab shop.
Vomit spewed everywhere, discarded glass bottles, and DJ sets inspired by Jimmy Saville
Was embarrassed to show visitors this space - reflects bad planning from the city council and lack of vision from the businesses

Great location, quick service. Went for a staff night out and was pleased. I did feel a bit like a babysitter, but that can't be helped these days haha. Pints were fresh and reasonably priced.

The iconic place to visit whilst in the city, the cavern, cilla black statue, John Lennon statue, ( covered in wrapping whilst there), beatles museum, bit tacky in some places, typical tourist prices in the establishments along here as well

Probably best on a Summers evening, because in cold February in the mornings, it appears a bit seedy and uncared for.

High up on a wall, opposite the 'new' Cavern Club and just down the street from the statue of John Lennon, is a mural of the Madonna holding three infants. This sculpture by local artist Arthur Dooley, who began work as a welder in the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, is officially titled "Beatle Street" but is also know as 'The Beatles Mural' and 'Four Lads Wh Shook The World'. The Madonna represents Liverpool and the three infants represent John, George and Ringo. Paul was originally a cherub to the left of the Madonna but this was stolen in 1976, a year after the mural was unveiled. After John's death, a baby with a guitar was added and Paul became one of the infants held by the Madonna. At the foot of the mural a tablet has some of the words from "Imagine". An interesting piece of art which is well worth having a look at when you are in Mathew Street.

Mathew Street should be a "must to see" by anyone who visits Liverpool but how it has changed since I was last here when I was a regular at the Cavern Club 55+ years ago. Mathew Street, originally named Mathew Pluckington Street, was, in the 1700s, when Liverpool was starting to become a major shipping port, an area of warehouses. In the late 1950s, however, Mathew Street became the hub of the Liverpool music scene and the home of the now world-famous Cavern Club where one certain group, The Beatles, began its rise to fame. As well as many statues, etc, of The Beatles there is also a very unusual bust; that of Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. Despite never visiting Liverpool, Jung had a dream which he thought was about Liverpool. He believed this so much that he wrote "Liverpool is the pool of life, it makes to live" in his book "Memories, Dreams, Refelctions". A local businessman considered that Mathew Street was the place that Jung had dreamt about and he converted a warehouse into The Liverpool School of Language, Music, Dream and Pun. That building is now Flanagan's Apple pub with the bust of Carl Jung adorning its wall.

Cabin Club was great atmosphere. Arrived 9.30 pm on Thursday and at around 10.15 a Beatles tribute band came on and belted out the Beatles classics. They were not the best tribute band in the world but in the setting of the club and the material
they were performing none of that mattered. Lost my voice in the collective sing along and before I knew it was 1am and time to go! Well worth a visit!

This is a must go too area in Liverpool, home of the Beatles, full of history, but pick your times to go, as it does get very busy at times. Recommended.

Hi wondering if anyone has visited after lockdown eased? Me and my friends have booked to go down September weekend wondering what it will be like for walk ins or if we will need to book everything etc. As the last time we visited it was more of a bar crawl

Hi, anyone visited on a Saturday afternoon? We are unlikely to be around much after 5pm but would like recommendations for the best place to spend a few hours, good atmosphere, live music, etc etc , We are post 50 year olds with wide taste in music, except karaoke! First time to Liverpool so welcome any advice , thanks in advance .

If you find Mathew Street too rowdy there is a cluster of older pubs opposite Central Station - we tend to go there on a Saturday afternoon.
Head of Steam on Hanover Street too. Also nice places to eat up Bold Street which is nearby.

We have stayed at Hard Day's Night Hotel a couple of times now and loved it!
Is there anywhere on Mathew Street where we can get live music and dancing where we'll also be able to get a seat on Saturday night?

Soooo jealous just love Liverpool, you are central to all the bars and clubs so don't worry you will be spoilt for choice. Cavern club is a definite visit as there is music on all day, and there is a great friendly atmosphere, not somewhere you would spend a great deal of time, as it's very small inside, but a must see place. There's great cocktail bars all around, with deals on the door to entice you in, Sugar Palms is a good one. Have a great time.

No dress code in the pubs, not sure about the Cavern club in the evening, they usually let people in with trainers during the day the pubs though are ok
