Sale molto grandi ma povere di opere … la maggior parte delle esibizioni è a pagamento …ma occorre la prenotazione 🫤

‪Great Art, but Really Great Building‬

‪One day of our England vacation we all decided to do our own things. I chose to visit the Tate Modern and Britain. I am not a particular modern art lover, but I had heard good things about the Tate. I will say that I loved the building. Converting an old power station into a modern art museum was genius. The display area in the large hall was amazing, simply the scale.

With that said, I enjoyed seeing several of the pieces. I particularly loved the Tower of Babel, a round tower of radio devices from the 1940's to today all playing something. There were Picassos, Dalis and Braques as well as blinds, wood carvings and other things turned into art. They also had a travelling Cezanne exhibit that I had seen in Chicago

Again, I am not the biggest fan of modern art but I enjoyed this museum. While the art is good, the highlight for me was the building. The redevelopment was genius and reason enough to make the visit.‬

‪Disappointing‬

‪Oh dear, what have you done Tate Modern? A visit to there was always a staple part of any visit to London but now the chance of getting a nice cuppa on the top floor and look over London has gone. Only alcohol and/or a meal, cold atmosphere throughout and very disappointing. Yet another post covid change that hasn't worked, for us at least. Will not be returning in a hurry.‬

‪Es un museo super amplio que está el interior de una antigua central eléctrica del siglo XX.
Las exposiciones temporales son de pago.
La cafetería está bien, aunque un poco cara (3,20£ café o té)
Abre a las 10h pero recomiendo llegar al menos quince minutos antes porque se forman colas bastante largas. ‬

‪We specifically came here for the Yayoi Kusama (one of my all-time faves) exhibit and it was wonderful, especially the Infinity room. Your time was limited in the exhibit as well as the group size. The museum, as with most London museums , was free' but most of the really good exhibits had to be pre-booked for a fee. Much of the art here is multi media , object and sculpture with little in the form of paintings, etc. We had opted for this instead of the Tate Britain because of the Kusama exhibit and were severely disappointed in the collections. The set up was odd in that this used to be a power-station so they use the space that was here. I found the space to be cold and un-inviting. We should have left after seeing the Kusama exhibit and gone to one of the local areas such as Tate Britain, National Gallery, St. Paul's, British Museum (which are all close). Instead we left early and went to nearby Borough Hall (more in that review later- Ugh!)‬

‪Das Tate Modern ist ganz sicher eines der besten Häuser für Kunst der Gegenwart. Die wechselnden Ausstellungen sind immer ein Highlight on Top.
Powertipp: Die Terrasse und das Café des Tate Modern hat eine ganz wunderbare Aussicht, wo man auch moderat etwas Trinken und Essen kann‬

‪Awesome modern art museum.‬

‪I’ve already visited this vast museum 3 times this year.
The location is superb, on the South Bank of the River Thames directly opposite St. Paul’s Cathedral with which it is linked by the iconic pedestrian-only Millennium Bridge.
There is work currently going on around it and it’s tiresome to have to walk all the way round to the eastern entrance, but that surely will be sorted out soon.
It was a stroke of genius to open the museum in the former Bankside Power Station, where the vast interior space of the Turbine Hall has been used to spectacular effect with many major installations.
With the addition several years ago of the new Blavatnik Building exhibition spaces in the already enormous museum have increased substantially.
In addition to the permanent collections there are always many changing temporary displays and major exhibitions.
Some of the temporary exhibitions are charged for but otherwise entry is completely free.
I’ve recently seen the current ‘Hilma af Klimt & Piet Mondrian: Forms of Life’, ‘Maria Bartuszovà’ and ‘Magdalena Abakanowicz: Every Tangle of Thread and Rope’ exhibitions, all of which are interesting.‬

‪Overrated, cold, and rude staff‬

‪After wanting to visit the Tate Morden for years I can say it’s the most overrated museum I have ever been to. I understand art is subjective but the majority of it looks like a kid slapped it together. The place has a cold vibe.

A blonde staff member of yours who was at the main doors last right 1 hour before closing was very rude. We left Tate Morden and within a second we turned around and asked politely if we could quickly pop to the shop to buy an umbrella as it was raining, this was when your lovely staff member would not let us get a single word in, and just said “no no no we’re closed” without listening and dismissed us, a simple “hello, im really sorry but we’re closing soon” would’ve been fine.

So yeah, because of the bland art work, cold vibes and rude staff member this place deserves a big FAT 1 star

I would not rush to go back unless you crave rude staff and boring paintings‬
